Didn't the H1N1 Strain cause the bird flu in asia?
That was H5N1.

Yeah, that's an entirely different strain of the flu-and a much deadlier one at that.

Same here. For the first time in a long time I'm actually bored. My school has been shut down due to confirmed cases of swine flu in the Houston Metro.  Which means my summer vacation is pushed back!

Well today is a rocky start. My little sister got sent home from school because she was showing flu-like symptoms. I think her teacher was pretty much overreacting because she woke up with a cough and runny nose. It was nothing severe really. And also she came out negative yesterday when we crossed the border from Mexico last night.

Also games this week for baseball have been cancelled as well. I hate you, Swine Flu....and pigs too.  <_<

Yeah, same here. I would think though, that since this is an unforseen event, that it would be forgiven. I know that here in Haslett, the school day was extended (mainly to account for the later start in the year, as it is now state law that all schools in the state not on contract start the day after Labor Day). This extension also adds a bonus in that if something happens during the year, we have some time to account for it.

Yeah, the Swine Flu story is annoying me too, and I feel for you there. I would be furious with it too if I were in your shoes. Also, I have never been one for pigs either. I think bacon is one of the most disgusting foods out there, and I hardly ever eat ham.  I pride myself that I am in Michigan, where nothing that is a major threat to large masses of people exists. Michigan is well away from Mexico. However, I can't capitalize on that forever. The Swine Flu is bound to come through the "metropolitan" areas of Flint, Grand Rapids, Detroit, and Lansing as well. I think that at some point some schools in the Lansing area could in fact close.

I'm amazed that there have only been 2 Confirmed cases of swine flu in Michigan so far.

A school up in Hainesport is closed for a few days due to a few people having flu-like symptoms (no confirmed cases).

We currently now have 4 confirmed cases of Swine flu here in Marlyand, and two of those are in Baltimore County, which is the county I live in.

Well, some schools around Detroit have been closed, and Fowlerville, just about 15-20 miles to my SE is closed for the week.

Just to specify, because there seems to be some belief to this.  Eating pork will NOT give you swine flu!  It can not survive the amout of time between butchering and being placed on the grocery store shelves.  Also, hogs in America, where we get the meat from, do not have this flu and they virus may very well not be able to spread from humans to hogs.

It's called swine flu but it comes from a mix of pig flu, bird flu, and human flu, it's not just pig flu.  That's why the name is so misleading.

Yeah and changing it to H1N1 didn't make it any less misleading. Now people think its the common flu!  :D

Although, they are now saying that this flu is actually LESS potent than the common flu, so perhaps the H1N1 title isn't too misleading.

Well, the amount of confirmed cases in Michigan seems to be calming down. There are supposedly 48 possible cases in the state (I think that is what I saw last nite), but so far, nothing has been confirmed in well over a week. However, that could change, and schools in the Lansing area may begin to close. There has been speculation of that.   :fear:
