250 people out of 6 billion in the world? This is huge! Sorry, but this is no where near where near as bad as what they are saying.

I did learn a new word: Pandemic. Up until this, I only knew of an epidemic. It must be boring at the media headquarters.

There's actually three levels for describing a disease:  endemic, epidemic, and pandemic.  The level of threat goes from lowest to highest in the order I listed.

Noooooo... Oh god, no. This is so miniscule, it's barely worth mentioning. The media likes to scare people. Society needs to have something to panic about. Politics are getting old, so lets have a health scare.

Just B.S. to sell flu shots, which in turn have harmful life-long side effects.

This is what I love about the health community - so good at making people believe every word they say.

It's incredibly simple: Eat healthy (not many people really do), exercise, practice good hygeine, and take care of yourself. You'll be just fine...

I'm not even saying that it's not out there, there might be a few spreading cases, but this is hardly worth mentioning. There are REAL diseases out there that are spreading and killing people every day, around the world, which never get mentioned on the news.

Think about it. I just feel sorry for those who believe everything the media tells them. One thing people do not know how to do, is think for themselves.

I agree with Gil here. 36,000 people die every year from the regular flu. 36,000!! It's ridiculous how the media does this. They might as well say the world is ending. Let alone the 2012 apocalypse hoax that nearly everyone freaking believes..    OH! And don't forget the little black holes that the atom smasher could make and suck up the whole solar system. Also, how about global warming! The ice caps are melting and that may cause mega floods.The media has NO life at all. It's stupid.. The media doesn't know when to quit! Now this  swine flu stuff?? Gosh, no wonder why other countries have no freedom of the press.     
Sorry for the outburst, but I'm getting tired of the media trying to make people panic and I'm tired of people believing everything they say!

It's so weird that there are more cases in northern-southern California than here where I live. They just confirmed two probable cases of the flu on Orange County. In fact, my cousin had to be sent home today because he was showing some flu like symptoms. He can't be one of those two probable cases because he never been to Mexico...ever.

Well the flu can have unlimited amounts of different variations. Its big that it adapted from another animal to our body. Still its being treated with basic antivirals. Its something we need to watch

I'm with Gary on this one. I think you guys are TOTALLY missing the point. This is a new strain, which there is currently no known vaccine for and people do not know how to react to it. Yeah, I'm sure we are all tired of hearing about the swine flu. I know I am. And yes, there always seems to be some big scare or big story in the news. Remember the whole Casey Anthony story? How about the pepper/tomato scare? Then there was the whole Octo-mom crap which is still going on, and the peanut butter scare, and now this. That's just how society is, and it's never going to change. Sure, having freedom like this has its problems, but every type of society does. There is no such thing as a perfect society. I always like to watch the local news in the morning and evening. This story about the swine flu is annoying, but I deal with A LOT of annoying things and people in life. So, as the user wxmediafan says, I follow it. It interests me too. Every now and then, there is an interesting story in the news.

And come on, really? I do not like to associate with people who say things like that Gil. How do you figure that the British media killed Diana Ross? The news is just part of life. The market will always be there, and there will always be a need for news.

The ABC afilliate here has decided to call it by it's "official" name, H1N1, so there is no confusion about pork products possible having "swain" flu, or something like that.

There are currently 11 possible cases of swain flu in my county.

Oops, my mistake. I never knew a whole lot about that. I was just making the counterargument there, and I never said the peanut butter and pepper/tomato stories were not important. However, the Octo-mom stuff and Casey Anthony is DEFINTELY something the vast majority of us do not care about. I was also just confirming the point made earlier that there ALWAYS has to be some kind of scare. Anyway, back to the Swine Flu news.......
