Aw man! I've been a fan of Joe Sample since his works were featured on the LOT8s segments. He may be gone from this world, but his legacy lives on. May he R.I.P.

Sad news indeed. He was my favorite jazz pianist. I didn't even know he was sick. I heard him on a show on Sirius/XM's Watercolors awhile back. Based on one of his comments, I got the feeling that he didn't really like doing contemporary jazz.

I'm so sad to hear this. He was one of my all time favorite TWC LF music artists with songs like "Carmel", "Rainbow Seeker", and "Love's Paradise". R.I.P. Joe Sample.

RIP. He was one of my favorite TWC artists!! One cannot forget "Hippies on a Corner". That and Black is the Color from July 2006 were my favorite songs. I was surprised to hear of his death, I thought he was in relatively good health?

So many people that were loosing this year and now Joe Sample! I can't believe that he's gone. He will be missed and the memories will still live on forever. R.I.P.! One of his songs that makes me feel like a kid again was Carmel.

The NY Times has a nice article on his long career.

Didn't know he worked with Steely Dan or Marvin Gaye.

Three legends of contemporary jazz have passed over the last year: George Duke, Ronny Jordan, and Joe Sample.  I have listened to his music since 1997, when I first heard him on now-defunct WSJT 94.1 FM, who also played some of his work with the Crusaders. It was cool hearing Rainbow Seeker again during the Intellistar errors in 2011.
