Post-Secondary Education Tax

I'm interested in everyone's opinions on this. I understand the Mayor's rational behind this - but maybe a flat fee needs to be worked out to make the tax more fair. Do you have anything like this in your city?

BTW - I don't attend school within the City of Pittsburgh so this wouldn't affect me.

Yep. Our governor here signed a fee increase for all colleges here in California. College tuition in my school went up $6 this semester and is expected to be kept this way. (during my freshman year in college tuition was $20 per semester unit, now it's up $26). Yes, I have to agree it is alot of money. I mean, $400 tax to go to college??? That's just crazy!!!!!!!!!

Of course this is a stupid idea. Raising taxes during hard economic times is stupid. Raising taxes on people who don't have money (like students) is stupid. And giving the idea a positive name, in an attempt to get people to support it is stupid. I Googled your mayor and was not the least bit surprised to find out that he's a Democrat. This generation of Dems are full of stupid ideas.

Anistorm - you only pay $26 per hour!? Wow, where do you go!? I've never seen a college's tuition that cheap!

Imperial Valley College.
Cheap? Not for us students. I'd rather keep it at $20. Just a note it's per semester unit. Ex: a 3-unit class would cost me $78.

Hey, I'd rather have gone to college for free, but they gotta pay for classrooms and teachers somehow. :dunno:

I think the tax makes sense, but it's just too much. The city's occupation tax for workers is $52 (to work 12 months long), but they want to charge some students up to $403 (to attend school for up to 8 months)? That doesn't make sense! I could see a flat-rate tax, but this tuition percentage is just too much IMO.
