Wow, I would love to have one of them  (though it might need the case.. :hmm:) how much would you sell it for? Btw, if your interested, the unit should fit inside a standard SGI O2 system from what ive heard/seen like this

When it boots up, on the saga output, I can see that it is trying to FTP out and I assume get data... I wonder if I could get inside and change the FTP IP t o one on. Y own server, that way I could feed it anything I want.
Easier to find out the IP it wants, then build a dummy network to your server with that IP.

I see what you mean, so if I could figure out the formatting, I could set it up to scroll news and weather data from XML feeds. That could be a lot of fun.,

I could even make it public, and then stream the output, so anyone could send data to it.
Maybe make it an online weather station with a bunch of random people feeding data to it?
Or maybe turn it into some kind of a message system and again stream the output.
That should be reasonably easy I would think..

Here is what Brian/cc17926 has done in regards to that.
Weather Star XL - 6/26/09

I don't think it is an easy task at all. Depends on how familiar you are with programming I suppose. In this scenario data is being exported from a program on a local networked computer and pushed to the XL. Notice the radar.

I checked out the emulation, and that's pretty cool you can do that. Is it for displaying your own weather station info? I mean is that why people make the emulations?

So what should I do with them? Play around, or just dump 'em on eBay?
What do you think?

Id hate to be greedy, but if you could send the slides to me as long as its fine with Martin.. i really wanna play around with them in after effects  :P and DO NOT put the graphics on eBay.. or else TWC will likely go after you  :hmm:

Slides? All of the graphics are in separate pieces. It's not really just one piece

Well, after thinking about trying to make a project out of these, I have decided to let them go. I have already made a deal with one of the members here for the XL in the rackmount case, and will be shipping that out tomorrow, but I have decided to put the other one on Ebay, so if anyone wants to get it, here is the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/WeatherChannel-Weatherstar-XL-Receiver-SGI-O2-/330577276966?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf7f0f026#ht_1973wt_1108

I should mention that this one stopped working on me today, it was working right along with the other one, but now it is throwing an error message, so be aware of that if you bid. (the other one still works fine BTW)

Zach, thanks for the interest in the graphics, but I can't really get them off, and hopefully the other forum member (you know who you are) that is getting the working XL can help you out with them.
You guys have been a help figuring out what to do with these, and I wish you all the best!
:-)

Iceliaco, it's alright if you cannot get the graphics off! All emulating is for me is a pure hobby and nothing more. I actually want to apologize if I sounded a little greedy, but it's unfortunate that I cannot claim this XL to be my own since my parents do not have the money. :( Good luck to whomever gets it!

I noticed you have $70 for shipping. To my knowledge the parts you are shipping don't weigh more than 10lbs. The entire chassis perhaps would cost around $60-70 to ship since that weighs arouns 50lbs.

I see your point, I was thinking about how heavy the other one was, and you are right, most of the weight of the other one is in the chassis, so I have lowered the shipping to $25
