I hope this doesn't go into effect...

Perhaps schools need to teach students instead of teaching the test. Good luck Obama with this
-
Is doing this, really going to improve our smartness? It's rank...sheesh
-
I know education is important. We already have a long-enough school schedule as is. But making school years longer would hurt the sales of amusement parks and pools, and for that matter the traveling/vacationing industry. And in these dire times, does Obama (with all due respect) REALLY wanna go that route?

Why does the education here keep being compared to the education in an Asian country? I find that very annoying. <_<

Because Americans want to think they are the best in the world. Obviously we should be the smartest

Personally? Add two more weeks of schooling and make it year-round. Don't screw with the # of hrs per day.
-
2 years ago, we had an hour added extra to the school year, it makes each class 70 mins long, any more hours and ill be dead by the end of the day.

I think we need to focus on the quality of our education first and foremost. Students that receive more one-on-one attention from teachers and have caring parents actively helping the process will do far better. The United States was once very good in math and science compared to all countries, but we have slipped considerably over the past few decades. Education needs to become a bigger priority to everyone. Adding school time will not improve things much if the quality of education remains below average.

This better not be approved. My school years are stressful enough already with 180 days. Do I need more stress, Obama?
-
Doesn't surprise me. Obama and the lunatics he associates with are full of dumb ideas. <_<
-
I don't have time to read into this (the article and whatnot), but I wouldn't mind seeing the school year stretched from 180 days to 200 or 215. Can't hurt, right?
-
i just think its a waste of money...like honestly, obama done nothing but spend.
where is this change in which he spoke about when he persuaded us into voting for him? i certainly see it in my wallet...
don't democrats typically help turn the nation around?
don't get me wrong, I'm an obama fan...but now i'm not so sure.

If you saw my post above, I can barely survive 180 days. 20-45 more days means 4-8 more weeks, which is a lot. If anything, my grades would probably only drop because I would be even more stressed about school.

Exactly. When people praise him, I'm like why? What has he done?

Adding more hours to the school day and extending the scholastic year won't help one bit. It will only be more costly for running the schools and the students would be more worn out. If Obama wants education to be reformed, get better teachers and invest to improve facilities.

Yah, like firing teachers who refuse to give grades or use red ink because it might hurt the student's feelings. Getting rid of the unions would help too.

I feel like writing to Obama regarding this issue. Wish me luck.
UPDATE: I've already written to Obama, hoping to curb his decision.
Wish me luck!
-
I feel bad for supporting Obama last year. This year isn't successful, and I admit Obama made many mistakes this year.
-
Yeah, I have to agree with everyone here...
-
i think its just a waste of time to target this sector of the public. Obama should just worry about bigger things like the economy itself and spending less time on pork based politics (wasteful spending and bringing the olympics to chicago) that has been stalling our country for decades.

I'm for this cutting back a little on summer vacation in favor of more school.

OMG, can you imagine how much money and paper this country would save if we eliminated pork barrel spending!? The health care bill, for example, would probably end up being only about 25 pages. :P

A single letter isn't enough to change decisions

You wont like block scheduling. 90min classes. They suck

Thank god im not the only one who has felt that from the start.
