According to the following article, NBC's WeatherPlus is being shut down. However, the article states several times that this move was planned, regardless of the acquisition of TWC (of which the article states NBC is only the MINORITY owner).

Yay! Looks like Weatherscan may stay after all! :D
-
I first thought this was a crock of bull, in just seeing the topic title.
Other than that....WOOT!

+1.
But this is great news for Weatherscan. Lets hope Weatherscan actually gets a lot more attention now and finally gets updated!

Now Matt, you know I don't spread the bull. If its from me you know its true! :P :cool3:

I have on Weatherplus and the audio is stuck saying "chevy" or something like that nonstop

On the main forum page, it was the recent post in the Cellar, with a post from Mike. Didn't know you posted it until I actually went into the Cellar and saw you started it.

This is really a ballsie move by NBC. A lot of it's affiliates have thrown tons of money in equipment and sets and graphics into the WeatherPlus brand, and now they're pouring it down the drain? Wow.
Though, in retrospect, the channel sucked anyhow. :sing:
Wonder if we'll see any WeatherPlus talent end up at TWC?
-
WX+ was even planning a new look debut to debut soon. Guess not any more. :P

Actually, not many of their affiliates were in on it. 10 O&O's and only 80 affiliates were involved in WP. That's actually a very small percentage of the total NBC affiliates out there.

True, but thats still a lot of wasted money. Especially when you consider most WX+ affiliates are the top 125 markets - the ones with the money to build custom sets around the branding.
-
I hope they keep the contenuess "L" bar ticker.
-
Their shutting down. Their not keeping anything. :whistling:
-
Lets' hope that Weatherscan takes its place!

I think WXScan will run as it is.
As for W+, my local station runs local programming and an earlier night newscast, so I'm wondering what they will do with that. They probably might have a separate channel dedicated to their newscasts.

I'm going to stop posting news on this forum. And you jackasses have yourselves to thank. I'm tired of everything I do being carbon copied onto TWCC. And its the same people who do it over and over again.
-
Do we know if http://www.weatherplus.com/ is going down the drain too?
-
We'd have to assume so I would think.
-
I would think it would go after the channel goes. In my area it's 10-2 on NBC10 (WCAU)... wonder what they'll do with the channel?

whoa, relax there a bit... Most of us did nothing wrong! Don't punish us :( I don't even know what happened...

TWC called, they want their Hillary Andrews back. <_<
Anyway, as for Wx+, I never cared for it; it got old in a hurry as repetitive as it was. I guess it was useful for a quick check on the weather, though.

One would assume that one of two things would happen:
i) it will be discontinued
ii) the affiliate will replace the WeatherPlus branding, and use a third party weather vendor to start another 24/7 local weather (or weather/traffic/news) channel

Who needs NBC Weather Plus when I got ABC affiliate WFAA's Xpress 8.2?

Those who don't like their ABC weather network but love WX+.
-
1 down, 1 to go, we have to figure out a way to get the AccuWeather channel canceled now.... I kid, I kid, TWC's best, but AccuWeather's a viable competitor....
-
What will happen to Wx+ meteorologists?
-
What will happen to Wx+ meteorologists?
my guess is either they'll work at NBC's forecast centers, work at MSNBC, or they'll receive a pink slip and have to find a job in this crazy financial crisis of a job market we live in today...
-
They could transfer to TWC. ;)
-
Nope, that won't happen.
-
Do we know if http://www.weatherplus.com/ is going down the drain too?
I think it would. It would probly redirect too weather.com.

No, it wouldn't direct to weather.com.
-
Well, what makes you think about it? It could of been "weather.msn.com" (hence MSN and MSNBC).
-
Do you have any clue what your talking about?
-
I'm talking about NBC's sister station MSNBC. Microsoft even partnered with them since the network's launch in 1996. Its also part of MSN.
