I don't know what one to get. Which one would you guys recommend?
-
so sorry, i don't wanna hijack your thread, but it seems relevant.
i intend on buying a wireless router in the near future, however i don't know what type i should purchase...or how to hook it up.
i don't want to buy something that isn't capable of working with the modem/laptops i've got.

I usually stick to linksys. They are much cheaper then the other brands and they have a decent amount of bandwidth from a distance. However don't expect them to last very long. I have gone through three thus far counting this and last year.
-
Linksys is good...DD-WRT makes it even better.

Is wireless N any good? (BTW My current Belkin G Plus MIMO Router keeps dropping the internet connection at a random time)

The Wireless N standard hasn't been finalized yet if I recall properly.... Any Wireless N device is a Draft N device.

Linksys ftw. We've had a WRT54G for nearly five years now, and haven't any problems with it whatsoever.

Linksys has my vote too. I have the same router billy has and couldn't be happier with it.

I second that.

That's the same router I have, Billy. I've only had to reset it once in four years, and it still works fine today.

I've had my Linksys router since 2005 and haven't had one problem with it either.

I have a NETGEAR router. It's ok...though. I have a G router that signals the whole house...I have also heard Linksys is a good brand.
-
Linksys is good, also had nice luck with a netgear router. Make sure you can put DD-WRT on it. Really adds a lot to any router
-
Surprisingly, my family has used the same Linksys router since like 1999 or 2000.

I'm sorry but I have to contradict everyone else. I will NEVER buy another Linksys router. I had three Linksys routers and an access point die on me. After the three Linksyses I got a Netgear and a D-Link and they both broke as well. I couldn't get a router to last for more than a year. I currently use a Buffalo WBR2-G54 that I've used for at least 4 years that I have only had to restart maybe 3 times *knock on wood*, I also use two AirPort Expresses to extend my wireless and those have worked flawlessly as well. Personally I'd recommend an AirPort Extreme but that's up to you. BTW even though it is an Apple product it uses the same 802.11 b/g/n standard that any other Router uses so it'll work with your PCs.

Are Belkin routers any good?

I second that. I have Netgear router righthere in my room that I believe I have had since 2005. It only acts up occasionally, and hasn't had any major problems since I got it. Any internet problems I usually have are due to the modem it is connected to. I'm only familiar with Netgear, so that is what I would recommend.

They are ok, I really wouldn't pick one as my 1st choice but my friend has one that he's used for a few years without problem.
-
I have the same Linksys router as a whole group of you...got it Dec 06 and haven't looked back. Only required one reset in that time.
Are Belkin routers any good?
Compared to Linksys routers, they suck. Also have a Belkin wireless desktop and USB stick as well, and I really don't like either (got them cheap/free).
-
Yeah, don't get a Belkin. Mine only lasted for less than a year, and it kept disconnecting.
-
I now have a new router and it is working really well.
It is a Netgear WNR3500 (Wireless N Gigabit Router)
