I'd like to get a MacBook sometime. Not sure that I'll be able to afford one anytime soon though.  :(
If you're on a tight budget, maybe you could get a Mini. If you already have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, you're in business the minute you get it.

That would be a possibility then I suppose.  :sunglasses:

That's actually what I'm considering to get as my first Mac (which will hopefully be sometime this year).

Its not very powerfull though. If you don't plan on doing many intensive tasks/programs, a mini would be an offordablesdasegasg option.

I've actually considered getting a used Intel Mac Mini (from eBay) to use as a media server or entertainment center since it's a small enough computer to fit inside my TV cabinet.

It's powerful enough for my needs, though. I guess you could say it's an "offordablesdasegasg" option. :P

Hah, i read something on the net a week ago, someone did just that, but with a Power Mac 6100 (the very first power mac). It was just as effective as a Mac Mini. He wrote custom software for it and everything.

I was looking on craigslist yesterday, and I saw a local listing for a Blue & White Power Mac G3 for $100... but the listing is nearly two weeks old so its probably gone by now. Does $100 for it seem like a good deal?

The specs are:
Quote
Power Mac G3, good condition, $100 OBO
tower only
300 MHz PowerPC G3
320 MB memory (1 x 64 MB, 1 x 256 MB)
80 GB Western Digital hard drive (with Mac OS X v10.4.11 installed)
8 MB VRAM video
CD-ROM Drive, Zip 100 Drive
Ethernet

Think I should contact the seller anyway to see if it's still available?

EDIT:

I just came across a newer listing for an iMac G3 for $20. Is this a good deal?

Quote
Imac G3 333mhz tray loader (blueberry), 64mb RAM, 6gb hard drive, OS 9

No keyboard or mouse, but ANY USB Keyboard and mouse will work.

And...this one: MacBook for $435.

I recently upgraded to a 17 inch MacBook Pro so I am selling my 13.3 inch MacBook for $435. The laptop has 2.16GHz processor Intel Core 2 Duo, large 120 Gb hard, 2 Gb memory, iSight camera, Super Drive. The price is $435.

Think I should pursue any of these sales?

20 dollars for a G3? That's a bargain!

I'd go for the MacBook. The price is incredibly cheap compared to the original price (more than half), and those specs are awesome. If you go for the MacBook, you'd get a hell of a lot more bang for the buck, so to speak.

That's what I was thinking, but it just seems too good to be true for that price. I want to email the seller first ask ask if everything works with it and ask if there is any warranty (Apple Care or whatever) still on it. I don't want to dish out $400+ on anything and have it break on me right after I get it.

Also, I plan to inquire about that $20 iMac. That definitely looks like a deal.

If you want a desktop, go for the Power Mac (if it's still available). Although it has a lower processor speed, it has more memory and other better features, and is also a lot easier to do maintenence in those models. I've had one of those for about nine years now.

That iMac is a great deal. I'd certainly check into it.

I've just gone ahead and sent emails to all three sellers. I'm really doubting that the PowerMac G3 is still available because the listing is over two weeks old, but the iMac and MacBook may be possibilities.

Yeah its unlikely that the PowerMac G3 is still available, but you never know it could be. Usually ad's are removed when the item sells, or at the very least a notation is added stating that the item was sold.
