Kevin Martin vs. NOAA/NWS
« on: June 23, 2011, 08:20:17 AM »
Those who live in Southern California, please be advised of Kevin Martin and his so-called weather groups, the SoCal Weather Authority and The Weather Space. Earlier this month, the National Weather Service has issued a Public Information Statement, stating they and their respected divisions have no connection with Kevin Martin and his products/statements whatsoever, regardless of formatting.

Quote from: The National Weather Service
NWS, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration has no association with the Southern
California Weather Authority or with Mr. Kevin Martin or any other
staff of the Southern California Weather Authority.  Weather
forecast and warning products developed and distributed by Mr.
Martin or the Southern California Weather Authority may have
formatting or contain content that could visually be confused with
that of the National Weather Service.  Regardless of formatting or
content, Mr. Martin’s weather products have no connection with nor
are they the products of the National Weather Service.

NWS is the sole official voice of the U.S. Government for warnings
of hazardous weather, including tornadoes, hurricanes, winter
storms, floods and others.  NWS encourages the media and others to
distribute NWS warnings and other hazardous weather products
widely to aid public safety.

NWS also respects the rights of individuals, companies, and other
organizations to produce weather information of their own and to
use NWS information to help them do so, including those who choose
to produce weather information regarding weather hazards; however,
it is important to distinguish official products that are produced
and issued by the National Weather Service from weather
information produced by others that is NOT produced by NWS.  It is
especially important to avoid any confusion between NWS warnings
and those that might be produced by others.

For more information regarding terms of use of NWS information,
see http://www.weather.gov/disclaimer.php

If you have comments or questions regarding this public
information statement, please contact:

I was waiting for someone to make a topic about this...obviously Kevin Martin has nothing better to do, as his Facebook says that he is in charge of issuing the warnings...which can't happen unless you work at NWS. As the NWS listed in their PNS, the NWS is the ONLY government-supported warnings issuer.....

Never heard of him. Looking at his website, I wonder why anyone would take him seriously.

A few weeks ago, this Kevin Martin guy was harassing Dr. Forbes on Facebook. I'm not sure if Kevin Martin's FB account was taken down or what...

Anybody ever watched "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction"? Here's a segment from an episode in the 2002 season about a SoCal weatherman who lets loose with his own predictions after slumping ratings. Although this story is (Spoiler Alert!!) Fictional, if Kevin Martin's forecasting methods keep up, it might slowly turn into Fact.

He did have a point though. They live in So. Cal, how exciting can the weather be if most of the time it is sunny and warm? Also I know the person playing that reporter near the end, she happened to be a local weathergirl at our CBS station and left last year and moved to California!  :P There was plenty of irony in that video.

*BUMP!*

I've been looking around Facebook recently, and there are quite a few weather websites out there now that are starting to get bold and claim that their forecasts are more accurate than those of the NWS, and that therefore they can be used as an official source of weather information. Just as a precaution, if anyone here (and I know a few who do) run a weather website, if you don't have a disclaimer like the following, I strongly advise you put one in, just to emphasize that NWS is considered the official source of weather advisories and warnings.

Quote
The Weather Center Organization is not associated in anyway with the National Weather Service, the United States Department of Commerce, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Any watches or warnings issued by any office of The Weather Center on potentially hazardous weather situations are not official. All advisories and warnings linked on the page of a local office are linked to the appropriate local NWS advisory.

The Weather Center strongly reminds all viewers that all meteorological information provided on this website is not official. For the most reliable weather information, please refer to the National Weather Service. Weather Center policy strongly enforces close coordination of products with National Weather Service advisories and forecasts, and reserves the right to remove any forecaster who does not comply with these standards.

You're right about that, Mac. A disclaimer is the best way to go. NEVER put yourself above the NWS. That's like putting another flag over the US Flag.

The entire weather community can breathe a sigh of relief.

Storm Central Salutes Kevin Martin In Thanks To His 15 Years Of Service

Kevin Martin, Owner and Operator of The Weather Space and Southern California Weather Authority, will be retiring after his 15 years in service in the weather department on Thursday.

Recently, Google has cut all of the “Medium Business Sites” off of the news tab under the Google News Homepage which has indefinitely affected the income of the site. The Weather Space’s Stats dropped from

over 25,000 a day to just reaching on average 3,000 a day. Along with Google Ad sense changes in the income of a building site, Kevin was forced to throw in the towel as it is not enough income to keep the sites running.

Not in sympathy, Kevin would also like to note that he is getting a divorce with his wife and she cleaned him out of money.

The words "retiring" and "threw in the towel" do not mix well together. Either way, one less nuisance for the National Weather Service to deal with. Way to go Google.

BUMP

I just got this from his Facebook page. He's running this thing now called the "Tornado Risk Analysis Model". I ain't seen this much BS in terms of weather since the time the NWS employee at Morristown, TN issued one warning covering 30 counties......

I get the feeling this ain't over yet......

New Rules:
NOAA is NOT allowed to be mentioned on this site. They are blacklisted from TWS ... forever. Not even authors or myself will be allowed to talk about "them" anymore ...

I've been battling these yahoos for years and they've tried to "Assume" authority of me, which is ended up in them thinking they can take it one step further in releasing "public statements" about me ... I will not have it and I will be making sure they pay for the damages to me ... both business and personal ...

Because of them ... My marriage has been rocky ... Because of them my site has been rocky ... Because of them I have heart and stress problems ... that of which I likely have bronchitis with my high temp and deep gold stuff coming from my lungs this week and can't even pay for medical help anymore.

For the stuff this site puts out, WxChannel shouldn't have 1.0 Million people while TWS has near 9,000 ... When TWS has portrayed to be accurate ... Put of the reason we haven't made it there is because of the public statement from NOAA< blacklisting TWS from media and emergency managers ...

But that is the rule ... NO MORE NOAA ... I do not want to hear they even exist from authors, myself, or viewers. TWS is independent and should we receive the major damages we are claiming from NOAA, the large amount of money will be used to expand this Website like never before ...

Put into perspective ... TWS was making $10000+ a month from ads and clients (consulting) ... ever since the public statement from them about me and TWS we've knocked it down to 100-300 and all authors are here to continue to help the site so one day they can get paid more to write what they do.

NOAA will pay for the incompetence and I wish to continue everyone standing with me to make sure they know they are wrong.

Another Note: TheWeatherSpace.com VIP will no longer exist. ALL ARTICLES will be posted on The Weather Space main page. We need maximum views and maximum coverage and we will no longer write just articles for "large things" ... we will get continued space, geological, and weather stuff out to build this facebook page to be a very large one and show NOAA the public (we) won't take their "authority" in trying to take down private weather sites ...

This is the only message I can give today ... I am very sick and cannot get the help I need right now for it and I will be lying down. Anyone who read this take a good feel and understand what these yahoos at NOAA have done to me and this site for quite sometime, escalating last year. The stress alone is nearly killing me but I am continuing TWS under what very little it makes anymore because for the few that are helped it should be worth it ... Good day ...
You say tomato, I say bourbon and Coke.
