Cable Channel Sharing
« on: May 19, 2008, 04:17:09 PM »
Does 2 or more cable networks share a same channel in your area?

Here's the timeline for my vicinity.

1992-1999:

24 Prevue Channel [now TV Guide]/Sneak Prevue (5AM-11PM)
24 Playboy TV (11PM-5AM)
72* C-SPAN2 (Weekdays)
72* Bravo (Weeknights and Weekends)

1999-2002:

72* C-SPAN2 (Weekdays)
72* Bravo (Weeknights and Weekends)

After 2002, it was no longer the case.

* = Channel 96 for Cable-ready TVs

25-Baltimore County Television
25-NASA

These are the only two I know of in this area that sharea channel. Their on-air times vary. Most of the time BCTV is on from 5AM-8PM M-F, and NASA is on the remainder of the time.

Back before WB and UPN became MyNetwork and CW, we used to get the WB station out of New York here. But, whenever either Philadelphia's UPN or WB were to show the same programming as NYC's WB (which happened quite often), there would be an announcement broadcasted by the Philadelphia station saying that the NYC WB is showing the same programming as the Philadelphia stations, or programming by PHL's WB.

Ya know Mike, I get a CW from Louisville and one from Lexington during Prime time (8-10 PM) the Louisville CW is blacked out due to "FCC-Regulations", Bull!

Yeah that doesn't make since to me, considering we get two CBS's(Omaha and Lincoln), two FOX's(Omaha and Grand Island), two ABC's(Omaha and Lincoln), and two CW's(Omaha and Lincoln) and nothing is ever blacked out.  Also, at one time the cable company was making deals with Kearney's ABC channel to add them too, without removing the other two ABC's, what a waste that would have been, luckily Lincoln's ABC put a stop to that.

Around here, we get two NBCs (WGAL, WBAL), two CBSs (WHP, WJZ), two ABCs (WHTM, WMAR), and two PBSs (WITF, MPT). One each from the local and Baltimore markets, respectively.

I think all of our channels are just one channel.  I wish one of them switched to Playboy, though.   :P
