The ideal weather website
« on: March 08, 2011, 10:50:27 PM »
I was listening to an interview with John Coleman (the founder of TWC, for those who don't know) today and he commented that most weather websites today suck. Unfortunately, the host didn't ask him to explain why he thought that, but that got me thinking. If you could create the ultimate weather website, what would it have on it? What would set it apart from other weather websites? Do you agree with his statement? If so, why?

For me, I haven't seen any better than weatherunderground.  I really don't know how you could add more.

I think it's almost impossible to have an ideal site that encompasses everything about weather:  air quality, climate, severe weather, tropical weather, observations, forecasts, models, long-term oscillations like El Niņo, re-analysis tools to go back in time for research, etc.  I would want a tab on the main page that takes you into each major category to explore further on a separate sub-page, but it would require a huge site with incredible navigation to make it user-friendly and still store all the massive amounts of data available in one really reliable server.  I use at least 25 different websites to get everything I need.  I don't see how that can be combined into one clean site without being too overwhelming to everyone else. :hmm:
