Firefox Beta 4
« on: July 06, 2010, 06:10:33 PM »
Finally Firefox with a decent design! Firefox 4 Beta 1 is out http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/06/firefox-4-beta-1-now-available-for-download/

Working well for me now. Not sure if I will make the switch back from Chrome though.

I agree. FF4 Beta 1 (It'd be best to change the topic to Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 or something similar) doesn't look wonderful in XP...and it's still slow on my computer. I think—unless there is a major speed change for the better coming soon—I'm going to stick with Chrome through the FF4 betas at least. I'll probably give it another try later on when the RCs start coming or the final version of 4.0 is released.

I used to love Firefox, but grew to dislike it because it used a downright outrageous amount of resources. I'm going to give this version a try though and see if they've done anything about that yet.

The resident Firefox Guru has this to say... I tried it this weekend... a lot of my extensions don't work, that's to be expected. They redesigned a lot with it. Seeing as how they skipped the alpha stage and went RIGHT to beta, I would proceed to use Firefox 4.0 with caution. I will have more to say when I have time this weekend to play with it.

Exactly why I got away from it. Chrome is soo light on resources. This version is better but still leaves room for improvement.

Wasn't Minesfield just like an Alpha? I used a few versionsfrom Mozilla nightly build ftp. A couple weeks ago they added the new skin.

I've been using FF4 since last night, and SO FAR I'm pleased. The resource usage is a fraction of what it is in older versions. The thing now is to continue using it awhile and see if it actually STAYS that way.

I'm apparently wrong. Firefox 4.0 used to be Firefox 3.7... I am on it now, and will continue to play with it.

I'll wait for the final release candidates to be released before I try it.  I hope Firefox 4 is faster as it seems that a couple browsers like Chrome jumped ahead of Firefox based on everyone's feedback.

It seems much snappier to me but for now Chrome will continue to be my main browser
