DVD Drive Problems
« on: March 28, 2008, 04:26:27 PM »
I'm trying to burn something to a DVD, but it tells me that the drive is not accessable and it's an "incorrect function." Does anyone know what's causing this? I hope this doesn't mean I have to buy a new replacement drive.

I've encountered similar problems before. Usually it happens when another application is using the DVD drive. Try closing all the programs except the burn program. If that doesnt work, tech support would help. Definitely won't have to replace the drive.

THats a software program, not a drive manufacturer.

Is it on a mac? Sometimes rebooting the Finder helps. I would definitely google the error message.

Sounds like a problem with the drive. It may need to be replaced.  :hmm:

No, this is on my PC. It's an HP drive. Man, this computer is cheap. First I had the "secondary" drive (the CD drive) go, and now, only six months later, the other drive is failing.

Yeah, I thought I remember you mentioning having trouble with a drive a while back. I thought it was the same one again.

I think my HP drive might be failing as well. It can only read CD-ROM and DVD-RW and possibly DVD-ROM. With any other type of disk, it just perpetually struggles to read it before finally giving up. I've actually had a lot of HP hardware issues lately. :hmm:
