DTV Transition
« on: June 12, 2009, 04:05:31 PM »
I don't know if there was a topic created for the Digital TV transition videos, but I'll start it off anyways.

Here in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; most of the major TV stations ceased analog transmission today around Noon with a few other stations switching later tonight (minus a few low-powered TVs that don't have a DTV tower).

WFAA-TV's "historic moment" includes an analog feed on the left side with the digital one on the right.

I was at a restaurant today that had a big shiney HD TV mounted on the wall, however a message scrolling across the top said "THIS TV IS NOT READY FOR THE DTV TRANSITION AND WILL NOT WORK AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT".

Interesting.

I saw our ABC affiliate switch over from Analog to Digital live during the second half of the news. (12:30pm EDT)

I saw our NBC affiliate (KYTV) pull (or push, to be precise) the plug on the analog signal. If I can find a way to get the video on my computer, I'll show you the glitch that happened afterwards...it's an interesting one.

Currently my NBC affiliate is the last one broadcasting Analog signals. Broadcasting until 11:59:59 tonight. I plan to watch the last channel in my area go off the air. Since I missed the CBS and FOX stations.

Boston MA: Station transitions

ABC WCVB: went from commercial during normal programming, a announcement saying "You are watching the Analog signal, your TV is not ready for the DTV transition"

NBC WHDH: National programming hinted that this was going to happen a couple of minutes, then went to a commercial break, station signed off during commercial

CW WLVI: Uneventual, other than the station just signed off 5 minutes early, just as i was pressing the post button from my other post, and walking over to the TV.

Good by NTSC, hello ATSC.

The last station broadcasting in my area ended it signal just now. Prior to a your TV is not DTV ready message. Oddly enough, they are still broadcasting an audio feed.

EDIT: They are no longer broadcasting an audio feed.

I do know that KTVT (CBS) shut off their analog signal at Noon CT halfway through "The Young And The Restless", so the analog viewers who regularly watch that show are REALLY gonna be 'restless'. No pun intended.

I've missed KXAS (NBC), KERA (PBS), KDFW (Fox 4), and many others' transitions, but all I know is that KXTX (Telemundo) was the last to shut off their analog signal tonight at 10:35PM CT.

Here in the Tulsa area, KJRH 2 (NBC) switched at about 09:00 CDT and became the nightlight, KTUL 8 (ABC) switched at about the same time, and KOKI-TV 23 (Fox) switched at 13:00 CDT.

Our nightlight here (KYTV, NBC) is on for 2 weeks.

They pulled the plug on the analog signal at 6:07 PM CDT on-air on the 6 PM newscast (anchored by my friend Steve Grant )...and here's the glitch.

Apparently DISH and DirecTV were somehow receiving what was on the analog signal, and right after the guy who pulled the plug said "Iiii did it," the screen went black.

About 2 seconds later the informational video that should have been only on analog was displaying on ALL DISH and DirecTV TV's.

This was fixed about 90 minutes later...but wasn't that interesting? <_< Here's the video story on the KY3 website. http://www.ky3.com/home/video/47953491.html

I'm going to work on getting a video of it.

A YouTube user has uploaded the final moments of WFAA-TV's analog signal as seen on the small analog screen on the digital channel, which includes their landmark nightly sign-off video used in the 1960s to 1970s as their analog send-off.

I did see the analog shutoffs of KXAS, KXTX, KFWD, and KMPX through others' YouTube videos; but nothing special.
