Companies that may not survive in 2009
« on: February 13, 2009, 10:20:54 AM »
Found an interesting article about companies that may not survive this year if the economy continues to worsen. They include Rite Aid, Blockbuster, Six Flags, and even Sirius/XM Radio!

Sbarro and Krispy Kreme are the only ones I've been to.

I wouldn't mind.

Rite Aid could survive... if it didn't spend so much money acquiring Eckerd (all the Eckerd around here switched to Rite Aid early last year). :whistling:

Krispy Kreme left the whole state of Arizona because of overupgrading. Dunkin' Donuts then chimed in and built new stores. Actually, Krispy Kreme came back in Arizona near the mall by my house. It took some pizza place. It's only drive up, you can't eat in, but they do have tables outside that you can eat. It's like Sonic in a way if you guys have them.

Sure

I know. I was against that move. Now there are two Rite Aids (one former Eckerd) less than 1000ft or so apart from each other. Its crazy and just stupid

Yeah, I'd say there are at least 10-15 RiteAids within an hour from my house. There wasn't even half that amount before they took over all the Eckerds here in mid 2007.

We had Eckerd. Now there's 2 RiteAids within 2 blocks of each other. Eckerd was a good pharmacy though...

Eckerd's still around?

They were bought out by CVS in 2002 here. :P

Yeah. Eckerd was round here, until it was bought out by Rite Aid last year.

We have a similar problem around here. On the corner of Saltsburg Rd/Leechburg Rd/McGregor Rd in Penn Hills, there is a CVS, Walgreens, and Rite Aid (formerly Eckerd). Ironically, the same trio exists at the intersection of Frankstown Rd (PA380) and Coal Hollow Rd, also in Penn Hills.

I forgot either one of those pharmacies existed, it's mainly CVS and Walgreens here.

Walgreens was famous in my area for building right across from an Eckerd. In a troubled economy, Im sure thats going to hurt one or both stores.

Anyone remember Revco? I recall the stores in my area went Revco ->Eckerd -> Rite Aid

I remember in the 1990's, all we had were mostly Drug Emporium and Eckerd stores. By 2001, lots of CVS's and Walgreens started popping up, which caused Drug Emporium and later Eckerd to suffer.
