Title: Comcast/Xfinity Weather
Post by: TWCJim on March 20, 2012, 11:46:20 PM
Been meaning to ask this, but does anyone know where Comcast gets their weather forecasts from?

I've been checking out the local forecast option on the main menu recently and the weather forecasts don't exactly match the ones I see on the local news or on TWC (for example, everyone says rain but Comcast says snow.)

This has been bugging me for a while. Any ideas on what and/or where the Comcast weather source might be?

The text based forecasts are definitely from the NWS because of the way they are phrased, but I'm not sure about the icon-based forecasts. I never use it though as it's never accurate. :P

It was always interesting to me how the icon-based page was usually different (sometimes glaringly so) from the NWS forecast pages.  :)

As Mike said I think the text is coming from the NWS, but the forecast next to the icons always contradict that.

Mine comes from the Chelmsford, MA Comcast Location so you can bet it's not accurate weather here.

Comcast/Xfinity is simply using a version of the NWS zone forecast for your area.  However, the refresh rate for updates is downright horrible.  Mine still has the dense fog advisory on it that expired over three hours ago; and the zone forecast is from early this morning, which my local NWS office has already updated for this afternoon.
