Title: Boscov's Seeks Bankructcy Protection
Post by: Mike M on August 04, 2008, 11:16:15 PM
Boscov's, a department store chain based in the mid-Atlantic, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is to close ten of its 49 stores.

This affects two Pittsburgh area locations, including the Monroeville Mall and South Hills Village locations. It was kind of surprising to hear this earlier today, seeing as how both stores opened at both locations less than two years ago!

We have three affected locations here, including one right down the street at White Marsh Mall. That one opened only about a year ago!

They're closing stores??

They're building a new Boscov's in our mall. It's been under construction for like the past year, but I have no idea when (or if) it's set to open now.

There's a Boscov's a bit north in Oxford Valley Mall in Langhorne, PA that's closing which also opened about two years ago, in the former Strawbridges building.

If the one in the Shore Mall closes then that mall will really struggle. Isn't the Value City there supposed to close this year?

I'm not really a big fan of the Shore Mall anyway. I prefer the Hamilton Mall when I go to the shore. It's newer, and they have more of the stores I like. Though, I haven't been to either of those malls in at least 2-3 years.

Still are.

That's my only knowledge of Boscov's even existing...I was in that parade Thanksgiving 2002 (Alex Trebek was the grand marshal).

Doesn't surprise me I hate Value City. I don't like the Shore Mall either. They're all small stores and the food court only has 3 restaurants. I LOVE the Hamilton Mall! They lots of chain stores and a big food court

I uploaded a video of the Boscov's situation too.
