This morning, two gunmen opened fire at the Fort Hood Army Base in Fort Hood, Texas. As of this post, 12 are now confirmed dead and 31 people are wounded.

Probably totally inapprorpiate now, but PTSD can be hell, and it wouldn't surprise me if that plays a part in something (read somewhere that it was a post-war rehab facility)

Looks like they now have the two gunmen in custody (Originally there are now 3 suspects that were involved in the shooting.)

The one you just named is the dead gunman, according to CNN.

From what I've heard he was a psychologist who helped soldiers who I'd guess would have PTSD. Apparently he was upset because he didn't like what was going on in Iraq and Afghanistan and had just found out he was going to be re-deployed. Although he was Muslim he was born and raised in the US.. He was also a member of the military prior to 9/11.

They just broke news that the gunman that was shot and killed earlier this afternoon is ALIVE. :blink:
Still, death toll remains at 12.

Most of the soldiers shot in this tragedy were getting ready to be deployed to Iraq from what I heard. Fort Hood has sent the most troops to Iraq and Afghanistan out of all army bases and has suffered the most losses from the war. It's a huge mess for an army base that has sacrificed so much for our country. :(

Weird. I heard 11 were dead. It's obvious this was a terrorist attack. I know soldiers can get PTSD after coming back, but most generally don't shout "God is great" in Arabic and shoot a bunch of people.

Good to know that local families weren't affected, but my heart goes out to those who will never hear from their loved ones again.

My bad. It's now 13.
Earlier this morning I heard there were 11 victims dead. They just confirmed that there are 13. I assume of the 30-something that were wounded, there are a couple that are severely injured.
