Here in Goldsboro, NC on the over the air channel there was an Accuweather channel for the nation, it lasted from July 2009 to June 25, 2011.
I believe it was either channel 11.2 or 11.3
No idea why they dropped the central NC region. <_<
If your station happened to be an ABC O&O, then that's why, since ABC mandated that all its owned stations remove AccuWeather in favor for Live Well Network in 2011.

Here's the latest out of Stephen Arnold Music. The sonic logo very closeley resembles TWC's old one. I like it!

- I have uncompressed.WAV's too if anyone wants them.

Can anyone provide any insight as to why Accuweather is launching this network? I can't really figure it out. It just seems like it's a niche market, that's already being served by TWC and Weathernation. In this digital age, where people can quickly get weather on their computers or phones, is there much demand for another 24 hour weather network? I just can't see how Accuweather is expecting to make money from this.

They won't. The money they make are from Ads and a Professional version for meteorologists.

I don't see a need. With WN floundering along and the advent of smartphones and weather.com, is there even a need for two weather channels? TWC is having enough issues providing round the clock weather coverage while they have a monopoly in the Non-DirecTV markets

According to responses to people asking on the facebook page, they are still working to launch the channel, with no launch date set yet.

Well, apparently they are making good progress

We are making good progress but have not released a launch date just yet! We will be sure to keep you posted. Thanks!
It's going to be interesting to see what Accuweather does. Programming wise. To be fair though I don't see Accuweather being a threat to TWC as they went for a different approach ever since NBC took over.

This was mentioned briefly over in the VZ FiOS dropped TWC topic, but it appears as though the AccuWeather Channel has launched on Verizon FiOS, replacing TWC.

Here's an article from the Washington Post talking about the situation:

OK, now Accuweather looks worse than WN!:http://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/twc-boss-accuweather-can-not-serve-viewers-during-severe-weather-like-we-can/259447

TWC has a point but in order to keep their point, they need to be on every severe outbreak or on a night with a number of alerts. . I wonder if FIOS will get TWC back soon and if DISH will keep TWC after Wednesday. I Hope So!!

Guys, I think AccuWeather is using The Weather Channel's 2005 storm alert theme. During the featured video of the day, I heard it playing in the background. Not sure if they used it with or without The Weather Channel's consent.

Eye of the Storm, or more commonly known as TWC's Storm alert theme is actually a production song. There is a version available from Stephen Arnold Music without the TWC Sonic branding. AccuWeather probably licensed a copy of the song.

Stephen Arnold Music is their composer (for AccuWeather and now The Weather Channel) but anything is fair game.
