Later this year, it looks like ABC Family will be rebranded as ABCF. It could end up as something the original owners (CBN & Pat Robertson) won't be happy about since the contract handed over through the original sale to Fox in 1997 says the word, "family", is supposed to stay in the networks name forever as well as airing "The 700 Club". The new name could possibly make some of you think of your report cards from school. :fear: I guarantee there is absolutely now way Pat Robertson would be bought like that.

Hmm, so Secret Life's summer finale is on Monday Sept. 6.
/me writes this down for jtmal0723 and skaloveexx33 on a post-it note.
I'm not surprised that the network will rebrand its name. In fact, that's how I have it on my DirecTV. I sense new logo coming soon?
I see they are adding new shows in their lineup as well, such as Friday Night Lights. And they're removing the 2nd hour of Full House (I'm also not that surprised since I've seen every single episode of the show :P )

Not only is ABC Family changing their name later, but Fox Reality Channel is now National Geographic Wild. A lot of channels are changing around this year. GSN moved on DirecTV from 309 to 233 and was always on 309 for as long as theyve had GSN on their lineup

Thank you
And lovely..that kinda pisses me off,I won't be able to frickin watch Full House anymore cuz I'll still be in school :hammer:

I smell a controversy.

I'm not surprised at all. In fact, it makes sense. I've asked for awhile why it's called ABC Family, when judging from its programming, it clearly is not a "family" channel. Sure, they're nowhere near as bad as MTV, but having the word family in the channel name is rather misleading.

So is this going to be a channel where the "acronymn" will essentially not stand for anything.

Oh it definitely has some "non-family friendly" television. I've caught some of it. Some of the movies and even some shows are a little too adult for younger children to see

SyFy.
/enough said

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Fixing something that's not broken just breaks it, so why bother? LOL!!

If having "Family" in part of the name is in the contract, why are they changing it? Did the contract expire?

Could not have said it better myself. ABC Family was intended to show programming suitable for all ages and families. However that doesn't get the ratings. Throw in some teenage sex scandal show with all kinds of crap and you got higher ratings. I am not bad mouthing the shows its just I wouldnt want a pre 13 year old watching Secret Life of Blah Blah.

Well the channel will still probably be officially called ABC Family but it will only be referenced by ABCF. I didnt see any confirmation of this change either other than that blog post

Some? I'd say the non family-friendly shows are the norm, rather than the exception. Aside from "Full House," I honestly can't think of one show I'd let little kids watch.

Well this is true. I wasn't totally thinking about the shows,I was thinking more of the movies. And yeah there really aren't any family-friendly shows on there other than Full House.

ABC Family is a pretty putrid channel. I wouldn't let kids watch either. Remember "It's a new kinda family" The new age of family where everything is excepted. Regardless of how morally wrong it is. :hammer:

The original name was actually CBN Cable channel, before "Family" was added to the name in the late 1980's. Family Channel debuted around 1990.

Anything goes TV is the big ratings grabber these days.

Just look at TWC and how they have spread out to cover more topics of "interest".

Yeah, the Weather Channel may be next for a name change... I can see something like "WC" or "Wx" coming in the future.

It may already be too late.

I have a feeling it's quite possible. I feel that they use "Wx" too much lately.
