my condolences goes out to all the families who lost loved ones in this horrific tragedy  :cry3:

Such a tragic event. Definitely wasn't what I enjoyed waking up to first thing on the news this morning
-
THAT's the main reason why I don't fly.

I agree, very tragic indeed. Weather might be a factor for the crash. One of the passengers was also a 9/11 widow.

Planes are safer than cars huh? Sure......... This is why I'm not getting on a plane. My sincerest condolences goes out to the victim's families. :itsok:

Since 1978, over 2.5 BILLION passengers have traveled on the airlines world wide. This represents about 15 million individual flights. In that 30 year span of time there have only been a few dozen airline crashes where fatalities occurred, and only a few thousand people have been killed or seriously injured. Therefore, your chances of being a passenger on a fatal flight is perhaps one in a million.
Statistically, you have a greater chance of being killed on the ground by a bolt of lightning. To put it in perspective, roughly 30,000 people have been killed in car accidents in the USA in 2008. That's the equivalent of two Boeing 747's loaded with passengers crashing and killing everyone on board, each and every week of the year.

One of the deaths was a very well-known 9/11 widow. This is just flat-out depressing. :(
All (and I mean all) condolences are out to the families who lost their loved ones in this tragic crash.

Tragic indeed. IMO, given the conditions at the time, I'm not so sure that craft should've been allowed to fly.

Rime ice was reported by other planes in the area and likely affected this flight. I imagine since this plane was smaller, the effects were greater. Makes you wonder how (and if) air traffic controllers and pilots take this is to account when landing and taking off.

yea, it seems ice may have accumulated in the engines cuasing it to stop working.
