Ok...I'm going to start this and hope it doesn't blow up. Let's try and keep the discussion polite.
Who would you cast your vote for tomorrow for the White House - incumbent Barack Obama, or challenger Mitt Romney?
It looks like it's going to be a very tight race, and early voting is already a mess in Ohio and Florida. I heard some reports that people were waiting up to 7 hours in some parts of Florida just to vote?
-
Tomorrow will be the first Presidential Election where I will be old enough to vote and I'm pretty excited about it. :D I'm voting for President Obama/V.P Biden
I made up an electoral map on my prediction for the results tomorrow. My prediction is Obama will win 303 electoral votes and Romney will win 235 electoral votes.
(http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/5128/electoralmap.png) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/189/electoralmap.png/)
Tossup or Leaning States to go to Obama
Ohio
Colorado (This one was hard for me to decide)
Virginia
New Hampshire
Wisconsin
Iowa
Tossup or Leaning States to go to Romney
North Carolina
Florida (This one was VERY hard for me to decide)
For those who know Chuck Todd, he's a political analyst with NBC and he said something yesterday that I thought was very interesting. The discussion was about how the Republicans have dominated the South and he said that he was surprised that Obama didn't campaign more in my home state of Georgia because if he did he may have been able to make Georgia a swing state also. :o I know the Black vote in early voting has exceeded 2008 levels here this year so it may not be outside of the realm of possibility that it could be closer here as well.
-
I too think Florida and Ohio will be extremely close, but I think they will both end up going Romney. I still think Ohio will be extremely close, and could end up going Obama, which would give him a second term. So, as it usually is, I think Ohio will end up being the deciding factor in this election.
-
Tavores, your map is exactly the same as mine. However, Florida is getting really really close and there is still a chance Obama could win it. If Obama does win Florida, then Romney is finished, hands down.
At this point, I see no reason for Ohio to not go to Obama. Every single poll out of Ohio since Nov. 1 has favored the President and the latest had him leading with a margin of +5.
-
Regardless of who wins, we need to all work together in the next four years far better than what both parties have shown lately. Vote for who you feel is best, but please don't turn this thread into a flame war under any circumstances.

You're right, it still could swing in Obama's favor and frankly if it did, I personally don't think he needs Ohio to win, but I'm still thinking in the end it's going to go to Romney by a small margin of votes.
Also the Romney campaign is aware that Ohio may not go for them which is why they're trying to put Pennsylvania in play as an insurance policy for a possible Ohio loss. Unfortunately for Romney if history repeats itself it's not going to work. Bush Sr., Dole, G.W. Bush, and McCain campaigned within a few days before election day in PA and all lost PA to their democratic challenger/incumbent.
Lastly, women will surely be out in full force. They've been the ones with targets on their backs by both sides this entire campaign.
-
Some people have been saying that PA is a tossup state. Actually, Obama has been holding steady in PA, with exception of Romney gaining a bit of momentum, but not enough to win it. I agree with Tavores' map, however, Romney also has a good chance of winning Colorado as well. At this point I think Obama will win the electoral college with anywhere from 289-303, and also winning the popular vote by a small margin.
-
Latest prediction markets and blogs are all favoring Obama by some degree. Of particular note is Nate Silver, a statistician who called 49 of the 50 states correctly in 2008, as well as all the senate races. His last prediction has Obama winning 314 electoral votes with Florida ever so slightly looking blue. His chance for Obama winning: 91.4%.
-
If I could vote, I would definitely pick Obama. A few weeks ago, I had thought that Romney's 47% comment had really hurt him in the race. I guess I'm eating crow now, judging by how close the race has been lately.
-
I just voted last week. Now I wait.
-
For those of you wondering when results will start filtering in - the earliest will be at 6 PM EST with Kentucky and Indiana tallying their votes first.

-
I voted for Obama (absentee ballot), and I think he will win the election, but by the very slimmest of margins.
-
I just cast my vote today, and that's all you need to know. I don't know why everyone has forgotten voting etiquette I learned years ago that you shouldn't tell other people your vote during an election. :hmm: It's the first time that I've ever voted with a machine as all my previous ballots were simply paper. :P

I always found the poll closing times like that to be so weird that it's so mixed up by states in the same region/time zone.
-
I didn't vote this year
-
I voted right before 8 this morning and the line wasn't too long, I guess part of that is because they moved the polling center from my old elementary school to a church since they permanently closed down that school this year. :( Overall, it only took me 30 minutes.
-
I voted for Romney/Ryan. It's going to be a close race for sure but I think Obama will probably win. The next few hours should be pretty exciting! :)
Thanks to everyone who voted regardless of who you picked. It's great to see so many people out making their voice heard.

I didn't vote this year
Why?

I didn't vote this year
Why?
Victor. Be warned. If you do not like who wins the Presidency, you have no right to complain about him since you chose not to vote.

I respect your choice, but there are 5 choices you can make for President - it's not just between Obama and Romney.

I wanted to know your guys opinions: What effect would Sandy make on the election? Would Obama's handling of disaster aid, relief response have any effect on this? I know he recently toured NJ with Chris Christie and I was absolutely surprised considering Christie and Obama were not the best of friends (but let's save that for later..)
-
Well, it was the Northeast, so electoral wise I don't think Sandy turned that region red. New Hampshire, the only real toss up state in that area, didn't get the worse. The main concern would be voting turn out but officials seem to be on top of that.
Nationally, I think it helped Obama slightly - gave him a chance to be Presidential, plus it was a distraction from the constant campaigning.
-
Romney almost certainly just won Indiana and Kentucky.
-
Romney almost certainly just won Indiana and Kentucky.
I agree, but it's not a surprise to me IN would just be going back to red after going blue 4 years ago. KY was gonna be solid red anyway.
Not picking on NH, but when I saw the current returns so far I kinda chuckled at the very small numbers where Obama has 28 and Romney has 14 compared to KY/IN's numbers. :P
EDIT: Virginia too close to call
Georgia too early to call :o
Romney has KY/IN/SC
Obama has Vermont
-
Well, Romney has 37 senate votes and Obama has 30. When do they announce the election results? I thought some states couldn't make it by 8 pm?

Some states are split by two time zones like Florida for example, the polls are closed now, but in the Panhandle area it doesn't close until 8pm because they're in the Central time zone instead of the Eastern time zone. The media can't call FL until it closes in the central time zone first.

Can anybody explain to me how Romney got SC when Obama is in the lead there? :dunno:

Exit polls show a clear majority for Romney.
NBC calls Arkansas for Romney. Romney 88, Obama 64.

Ah, ok thanks for explaining.
I noticed on ABC they went ahead and gave Obama NJ bringing him up to 78.
-
Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Wyoming, and Mississippi go to Mitt Romney. Obama wins Michigan, New York, and New Mexico. Obama also wins New Jersey.
Current count is 123 Obama, 152 Romney.
Michigan was a hopeful for Romney - not so.
-
FLORIDA is very very close and Obama holds a slim margin. If Obama wins Florida, then the election will practically be over for Mitt Romney. This is very, very surprising.
-
Obama has Pennsylvania after being too early to call for about an hour.
NOTE: Most of the Swing states still too close to call there are still VERY long lines of voters well after closing. Colorado running out of ballots and is rushing to get more.

He's got a hold for now on Hillsborough County and a strong hold in Miami-Dade County and Orange County for the popular vote.
-
Wisconsin called for Obama.
-
Big big call - Scott Brown has been toppled from the Massachusetts Senate seat.
EDIT: In Indiana, Mourdock's comments about rape have come back to haunt him. The Democrat will take the Senate seat for Indiana.
-
Obama just won New Hampshire. Romney's path to 270 is getting tighter and tighter.

I figured Warren would defeat Brown and that Murdock would be defeated because of those rape comments.
Also Obama has won Minnesota.
-
Utah now goes to Mitt Romney. Iowa is too early to call. Nevada is too early to call. Romney wins Montana. Race is tied, 162 for Obama and Romney.
-
Utah now goes to Mitt Romney.
Well that's no surprise :P
Romney has 50% of popular vote, Obama has 48%
-
No surprise - Arizona goes Romney.
-
Mitt Romney - Missouri
-
Tammy Baldwin (D) made history tonight in Wisconsin becoming the first openly gay woman to serve in the Senate. She defeated Tommy Thompson (R) in the Senate race there.
EDIT: California, Washington, Hawaii, all go to Obama. Romney wins Idaho and North Carolina. Also Oregon is too early to call, but Obama is leading there.
Electoral Count at 11pm ET
Obama - 243
Romney - 203
-
Politico projects Mitt Romney will win North Carolina. Virginia is looking to go to Romney unless a major turn out in Northern Virginia occurs. Florida will probably need a recount, but Obama retains his lead with 7% left to report.
-
California, Ohio, and Washington go to Obama. Oregon too early to call.
-
Obama has Iowa and now Oregon.
-
Obama has Oregon.

Obama wins Ohio and wins the Presidency for another four years.

Romney doesn't want to concede Ohio. <_<
fwiw, Virginia still gives President Obama a slim lead. Also Nevada has gone to Obama bringing him up to 281 electoral votes.

For good reason...Romney now has a 0.5% lead in Ohio. This may have been called too early.

Even if they take Ohio back, if Obama gets Colorado he still wins with 272 electoral votes.
EDIT: Speaking of Colorado, he just won it bringing him up to 290. I also predict Obama will narrowly win FL/VA.
-
Mitt Romney has called President Obama to congradulate him on his second term win. Romney is conceding defeat.
-
Barack Obama wins re-election.
Mitt Romney concedes.
Marriage equality is made legal in Maine and Maryland.
The first openly gay Senator is elected as well.

What a sad night for the Romney supporters. Obama ran a good campaign and won fair and square so its time to support the president. Hopefully the next four years are prosperous for the economy and the American people.
-
It makes me laugh when I see kids from the preschool at my school going around saying "I hope Romney wins!". Somebody apparently didn't get the memo. Haha. Anyway, congratulations to President Obama on his second term.

 The government is become way too liberal.
Unless the Republican Party can realize that their ideology is becoming unpopular among a large portion of Americans and start appealing to the youth vote and the minorities, they are going to continue having trouble getting into the White House. It's disappointing - the Republican Party used to be an excellent party in the earlier years of this country.

The Republican Party definitely needs to become more appealing to younger people. The results in school-wide elections/mock-elections have always been Democratic at my schools. However, that may be in part due to me living in one of the more Democratic parts of Michigan.

They were going way too far to the right on their ideologies. Frankly it was scaring me because a lot of the ones who gets all the media attention were talking like were still in a universe of 1962 instead of 2012.

The stock market sure was excited about the win today.
-
The markets were more in response to a growing economic crisis in Europe rather than Obama - although it certainly would have done better if business man Romney had won. ;)
