After one year with Drew Carey at the helm of the longest running game show...the show is going a "new direction". FremantleMedia, the company who virtually* took over after Mark Goodson's death and estate sale, has been wanting to, for lack of a better term, "modernize" the show and change things up...after Bob Barker (who had a virtual stranglehold on the proceedings) retired, one man was left to keep it together, producer Roger Dobkowitz. Roger was the only member of the staff left that had been there the entire time...by this time he was responsible for selecting the games, the prizes, etc. He also made sure the game itself wasn't changed...six games, two instances with the Big Wheel, two showcases, a set with three doors and a turntable, models to glamorize the prizes...that sort of thing. That last part didn't sit well with FremantleMedia.
Thursday, after the final season 36 show taped, he was sacked.
I have read some crazy things could happen to the show for next season...possibly the reduction of games down to four (for more contestant interaction), possible sacking the bidding game before the contestant comes on stage, possibly changing the "come on down" format, possibly a video wall, and probably the most "wtf" thing...potentially the sacking of everything that made this Price is Right familiar (to make it different completely). And that would include sending Plinko to the flamethrower.
This last paragraph is complete speculation. But we get in HD!
Stay tuned.
