Title: Whoa!
Post by: Gil on August 25, 2008, 08:58:10 AM
I turned on TWC just now, and I get only the Blue Bar. It's flashing/flickering in different colors, while the audio is just crackles.

Is this happening to anyone else? I think the IntelliStar is freakin out, it's displaying weird graphics.

Local on the 8's now. It's flickering in RED colors. The narration is repeating itself OVER and OVER again.

EDIT: The IS is definitely freakin' out. I popped in a VHS tape, so I'll be posting some videos.

As of 8:28, It's back.

I'm guessing that my IS was either updated, or rebooted.

Why do you have to transfer it to your computer? Isn't the tuner IN the computer?

Further, why is it going to take awhile?

Not trying to be smart or anything either, by the way.

It's on a VHS tape, so he has to transfer it from VHS to his computer.

I havent used my TV Tuner in years. No it's not in my computer, it's a USB.

And now, the tape got stuck in the crappy VCR. So, it will be even longer.

Just my luck. <_<

Well, the cassette is still stuck in the VCR, and I really don't want to risk losing the recording. Hopefully I can get it out with minimal video loss.

But yes, I will get them up ASAP.

LOL that's kinda hilarious actually..

i'd burst out into laughter if that happened to my IS.  :P

btw - did anyone happen to notice that on the 7 day forecast the location name changes after the first flick? that was kinda odd i thought...but hey the star was already freaking out.

Then near the end, I see the LDL starts flickering red; I wonder if this will give them an idea for a new thing to turn red during Storm Alert! :P

For some reason, I didn't see that video, and just came across it now on YouTube.

Yes, that's EXACTLY what happened, and that's the SAME STAR that I have! I think that was recorded on the same date and time too!

The information setup is not the same as my STAR, but Chicago headend has a weird STAR setup. I think the whole north side of the metro area shares the same STAR, but with different locations and stuff.

I don't see how that's possible...

I think the feed was switching between two different STARs actually - a Chicago STAR unit and a suburban STAR unit. That's how it appears anyway.

Yeah, I had a similar issue happen to me once back in 2006. I was watching my Mount Holly IntelliStar, then suddenly the feed switched and I saw the Camden IntelliStar instead.

If I was an admin, I'd issue whoever uploaded that film a warning because of a foul use of the G-word. PLEASE, do not use it as an insult. There should be no tolerance for this language.

I noticed the phrase "my intellistar was g*y and it broke" around the 1:20. I didn't appreciate the use of that word then.

Since when was "gay" a bad word? Not one I would choose but still  :dunno:

"gay" is not a synonym for stupid is what he's referring to. I hate that people use it in that context also, mainly because I'm gay myself. It doesn't make me stupid.

There's an interesting theory.

As for the "G-word", It's pretty much the same as how people say "retarded" these days.

I think some of you are taking this a little too much to heart, especially if we're going around saying g-word like its one of the dirty words. I thought part of being gay was being comfortable with that, and being able to say the word.

Neither word should be used as an insult for anything, though.

I'm not saying they should. I'm saying that I think the sensitivity to it is just a little much. Let's try controlling things we CAN control. There's a saying that really says it best:

Quote
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Alot of people out there ought to think about those words.  :)

I've gotta admit, there is a little too much sensitivity when it comes to issues like that.

Yeah, I had a similar issue happen to me once back in 2006. I was watching my Mount Holly IntelliStar, then suddenly the feed switched and I saw the Camden IntelliStar instead.
...and the same thing happened this afternoon, except I got IntelliStar 21865, from Burlington's headend. I first thought there might of been a headend merge, but after further looking at this IntelliStar's config, that couldn't of been the case because it didn't have any cities nearby here, and Marlton could barely been seen on the metro map. The current conditions were from Burlington and the forecast was for Willingboro/Mt. Holly/Roebling. 21872 returned within a few hours later though, so there was probably some difficulties or something.

Still receiving this IntelliStar, and have been for more than two weeks now. I don't know if 21865's coverage area expanded, or if my headend is just pulling this IntelliStar's feed instead of its own IntelliStar (21872) for whatever reason (difficulties or something). Just incase there was an expansion, I've requested the Star Team changes to 21865, because now this IntelliStar barely covers my area. So far no changes have been made, nor was I received a word that if me receiving this IntelliStar was intentional or not. What's going on?

I emailed my headend about this, and I get this response that doesn't help at all.  :dunno:
