ya i remember when mine did on december 10th that year

my 4000 became badly degraded in September 1998, at one point i couldn't view the Extended forecast

Mine never degraded at all. AFAIK, it was still in flawless shape when it was yanked for the XL.

Ours degraded sometime in the late 1990s or early 2000s, I can't remember exactly when. It wasn't horrible degradation, just the background gradient was messed up, like this 4000's was:

I don't recall mine having degradation either. It was replaced in early 1999.

I remember the first time I watched the Weather Channel I was fascinated with the v1 XL. It was Christmastime, foggy, and 10 degrees. The music was playing and I was enamored with the technology. TWC's peak I say would be during the '05 Hurricane season, where IMHO they delivered sincere and quality coverage. It started going downhill with the more seasoned OCMs going to odd timeslots and Ms. Dangly-Jewels replacing Jennifer Lopez on EE. The only good addition that has happened recently is A&B, but it's like saying it's got the highest ratings on the DuPont channel.
