Amidst the other happenings at TWC today, Abrams & Bettes announced that TWC will be going dark for Earth Hour tomorrow, which falls during the final hour of PM Edition Weekend. As a little preview, they turned off the lights in the Abrams & Bettes studio and also showed the lights being turned off in Studio 1 in a recorded segment. They left the A&B studio pitch black for several seconds before turning the lights back on. After that, they omitted the check in with the EE team and went straight to the Photo Finish, after which they went to a wide shot of the studio and turned the lights back off as Steph waved goodbye.
It should be interesting to see what they to with PME Weekend tomorrow, as well as what studio they use for the show.
BTW: I can get a video of this segment later after my recording stops.

Wow i better record this :o
-
Will someone be able to furnish a clip for the site?

I will.
They're going to show it tomorrow though?
-
We don't know exactly what they'll do yet, but they are live during that hour, and they claim to be participating, so I'll record whatever it is that they do. IMO, they should set it up so that they go on the air at 7:59 PM ET and turn the lights off while they're on the air.
BTW, I don't know why they did this, but they left the lights for the TWC logo on the wall off after they did that example of going dark for the taped segment I mentioned earlier. They really should have turned that light back on for what might be the final broadcast from studio 1B.

Video of tonight's Earth Hour segment on A&B:

-
So they're showing it tonight at 8pm?
-
I hope they go dark for another 5 hours like they did for the January 22 outage. No music, and then let the Trammell Starks kick in. This time, the Intellistars DON'T come back on. ;)
-
This is already suspicious; they've turned off the secondary lighting for the first hour of PM Edition Weekend; normally if those lights are turned on for Weekend Weather Center, as they were today, they aren't turned off for PMEW. (never used that initialism before...)
-
I saw that. Veyr interesting. I wonder how this turns out on PME later.
-
I know exactly what TWC can do with $600 million....get a studio that doesn't leak.

Earth Hour? I think I'll go cut down a tree or three...what a load of BS.
-
Are they going dark for the entire segment or at a certain time on PME?
-
We don't know anything. Hopefully it's as profound as they make it sound.
-
Folks...here we go!
(after this Local on the 8s).
-
It's 8 ET, and the lights are still on at TWC.
-
Everything looks normal on PME to me...

They freakin' turned more lights on!
Have they lied to us?

They freakin' turned more lights on!
Have they lied to us?
Or perhaps they celebrated it an hour earlier? Who knows.
-
They shouldn't be able to pick and choose; if they're going to do it, do it during the actual Earth Hour!
I can understand leaving the key lights on, but other lights should be turned off in the background.
-
Maybe they turned out the lights in all their offices and other studios that they're not using right now. That would be my guess.
-
Probably, but that's just silly. All of the lights they have on in the studio are far less than essential. Nice example being set by the supposedly environmentally-conscious TWC.
-
Well, during the 8:30 PM ET segment, they mentioned the saving power for the Earth Hour, but it looks like they've still taken no visible action.
-
How ironic.
I hope TWC feels good about their credibility.
-
i think they celebrated earth hour during the re-air of forecast earth @ 7pm ET

Or if not then, they will during the 9:00 PM ET hour or long-form programming.
-
Wow, spazz over nothing much?
Up here, we broadcasted outsite (as all lights were off inside, and the key walls wouldnt work :P) all that was used was a Sony IMX camera on batteries and 1 (one) LED light.
-
I saw nothing!!
Oh well, I was in Atlantic City for 20 minutes doing some shopping :P. I just returned :)
-
Is it just me, or does the set look extra dark for some reason tonight during EEWC?
-
Same thing last night.
I know they did mess with the lights when they were shooting that farce of an Earth Hour video. They might have burnt out the lighting around the TWC logo, or they never turned those lights back on.
It actually creates the illusion that the big backdrop is properly lit since the logo wall is so dark!
-
I didn't see this on TWC, but I have heard it on CNN that many countries were on Earth hour turning off their lights to conserve electricity.
-
I went around the station unplugging things.... As a joke, I eventually got in to master and started unplugging things until someone notcied :P It's alright though, were all tight :P
-
Which station?
