just because Comcast is almost done acquiring NBC doesn't mean they're trying to protect TWC, Competition in cable make sense (especially in the News/Weather category) and i wont be surprised if they end up acquiring WeatherNation TV just for extra money from paid subscribers.

We all know Comcast looks for every little way to make money and adding a channel like this is the way to go.
With how successful of a network TWC is, why would Comcast want to give it competition? And why would Comcast want to fork out money to acquire rights to WeatherNation? They would make little, if any money off of it.

Comcast wants competition because it would help bring in subscribers (don't you already hear that often?) plus it's not successful in a subscriber standpoint only in business, and Comcast would jump on this ball just like any of these cable companies who want to drag in subscribers and that's a fact.

*Please note i'm not starting any fights, i'm just saying that Comcast would do anything to drag in Subscriptions, even if its a new Weather Channel*

limited news so far but the launch should maybe come between May and July if it was to be during Q2 2011

I'd put money on that fact that Comcast will not pickup this channel. That's all I'm saying.

I can agree with Tyler.. Comcast is out there for money and since they are holder of NBC's umbrella, whom holds TWCs umbrella, they wouldnt want more money lost by supporting the competition

I don't think WeatherNation would need Comcast to be successful if they can pull in enough subscribers from other cable networks and satellite networks, but they probably wouldn't be able to reach as many people as a con to that. I'm kinda hoping they can be successful if they're serious about sticking to their agenda of all weather, TWC needs competition so there's more choice and variety. It's sad to think now the only thing that hasn't been completely tarnished about TWC is the whole LOT8s concept, makes me wish I still had Weatherscan at least they left it the way it was because they could care less about it.

Honestly, it wouldn't hurt to have some competition.  We might actually get a better TWC over the next few years now that they have a challenger who promises to do "pure weather".  It'll be interesting to watch, but I also don't know how successful WeatherNation will really become.  They could easily flop just as some of you already said.

Victor, I'm leaving the reaction to the Peter Lik show on the General TWC Discussion as Tyler intended the video to be for that purpose.  I had to remove your video post and move one of my posts about the new rival over here to make things more sense.  Combining the posts here as you requested didn't go well as it would have caused a couple double posts and gaps, so hope this is okay.

I wanna see WeatherNation evolve to a better rival to TWC. I just hope it doesn't go kabloop like the other TWC.

I am hoping that DirecTV picks this station up. All we have right now is TWC. No WeatherScan. No WeatherPlus. A 24/7 weather network would be great.

There just isn't a market for another TWC. Cable viewers are going down.  Cable networks (especially news and information networks) are struggling to keep viewer rates as it is. I really don't know many people who watch TWC anymore. It's all about mobile and internet distribution. No cable only company will successfully compete with TWC. It's just a sad fact.

It's a sad fact now, but the future could be different we will just have to wait and see how WN plays into the numbers.

How will the future be different as society continues to move towards mobile platforms, and more and more people but the cord from cable and satellite every day?

I am starting to change my mind about it starting.. remember Wx+? well yes that was from NBC and taken down after the purchasing of TWC, but that was removed because TWC had the higher viewership and its original intention was to compete with TWC.. so I thynk Tyler is more than likely correct that WxNation wont be on Comcast systems as a comparison to NBC yanking Wx+ to prevent competition with TWC.. I understand the situations dont relate, but it was my allusion to a similar situation
