I don't know if there was already one here, but I'm gonna go ahead and start it.
This is a thread where we all discuss about The Weather Channel weather icons used on the WeatherSTAR 4000, XL, IntelliSTAR, National feed, and weather.com (http://weather.com) & its services.
If anybody has questions, comments, and or changes on the icons, feel free to post them. And if anyone wants to request an icon, ask me, Tyler, Al, and/or anyone else that holds the icon sets. Just remember that they're owned by The Weather Channel and TWC Interactive and we ask you to PLEASE DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE THEM.

As some of y'all may know on a topic recently posted here on the "Everything Else TWC" section (https://twctodayforums.com/forums/index.php/topic,1143.0.html), the WX icons on weather.com's "Weather On Your Website" program has been modified. And from what "season lover" said, it seems TWC's site may make an icon change itself. We'll see what happens.

It's now official!
As of today, weather.com (http://weather.com) has now updated all of their icons. Take a look at the following screenshots:

Will this take place on the IntelliSTAR too?
-
I'm not sure

Most likely not.
-
No, those icons are just "web-friendly." They won't debut on the STAR's. Personally, I think they are better than the older icons. They don't have those white edges like the older ones did.
-
I'm gonna miss the old icons set though, but I do like the change.
At least I still have the previous set in ".png" form.
Speaking of those new icons, I have just created over a dozen of them myself from that set since yesterday. Click on the link to see them. (https://twctodayforums.com/forums/index.php/topic,660.msg53274.html#msg53274)

Whoa, this is absolutely crazy. Now weather.com has switched back to the old icons. Possibly what I saw earlier was just weather.com testing the icons to see how they would look? :dunno:

I was kinda puzzled myself. Though the test might be the possible explaination.
Judging from the pictures in your earlier post, it does look good though.

I'm still seeing the updated web-safe icons.

The web-friendly icons kicked back into the main weather.com database as of now.

Yes, they did. I didn't realize they came back last night; I just noticed them this morning. Hopefully they will STAY this time.
For Hurricane Dolly coverage, weather.com has live conditions for cities in south Texas. The live conditions use much bigger versions of the new icons:

I would love to see the "Live Conditions" box added to the Weather On Your Website (http://www.weather.com/services/oap.html?from=footer) program. If for nothing else than to create a "Getaway" page for my "Weather Window" (http://geocities.com/mbrstooge) site.
-
OK, the weather.com staff really need to make up their minds, are they gonna go back to the current icons used on TWC or are they switching to the web-friendly kind?
-
Clear your cache. Then you'll see all the icons matching.
-
Anyone have the WeatherSTAR XL icon set?

i believe that may be the whole package. though i'm not sure.
-
No, it's missing several. :( I need the full set, if possible.
-
well, i was able to peek around on xoap.weather.com - here are their XL Icons

(sorry I didn't save them - then re-upload, i'm sorta tired :hmm:)

Official icons SDK.
-
Al, those aren't transparent.
Billy, those are the CURRENT icons, not that XL/old IS icons. ;)
-
Try this link. Hopefully it works.

Great, thanks! :D
-
You're welcome.
BTW, some of the additional XL icons are created by Tyler, Al, and me.

Not bad for my first successful ZIP folder!

Whoops. I guess I uploaded the wrong SDK. :P
-
One thing that puzzles me is on weather.com, whenever my area's forecasted for "Thundershowers", why do we see the "Showers" icon?
-
Just today, I got my hands on the international version of the web-friendly icons, courtesy of uk.weather.com (http://uk.weather.com)
Freezing Drizzle

Freezing Rain

I've noticed on the IntelliStar they made a modification to show the Thunderstorm icon instead of the rain shower icon when forecasting Thundershowers. Now if they can do the same thing on weather.com, all the better.
-
Just today, I saw for the first time the "Windy" icon used on weather.com's current conditions section as "Squalls and Windy". The following picture is derived from a TWC weather magnet on my weather website.

R.I.P. old icons :cry3:
I wish I had seen the change coming :(
-
I remember when I was at their website earlier today the Desktop Weather Ad had a picture of the old version w/ the XL icons. The old version of Yahoo still uses them, they're just modified some and out train station uses them as well, but they're pixelated obviously.
-
The TWC Mac Dashboard widget still has them at 32x32. It's also a veritable time warp.

Yeah, there are traces of the old icons left in quite a few places. It is a relief to know that TWC still has the old icons on a computer, so they could revert back if it ever came to that.
-
Just saw a new fog icon on TWC @ 4:32pm edt over Boston, MA
It's the fog txt and now it has wind trails around it.

Say what? I'd be interested to see this.

Could somebody replicate the current rain and windy icon?
