I am not sure if I am the only one that has noticed, but TWC does not always "break in" on specials, or "pre-empties" other programming when severe weather is in certain areas.  Seems like if severe weather is in Arkansas, Alabama or Georgia, they break in, but if its severe in Tennessee (only) or North or South Carolina, they do NOT break in.  A few nights ago, there was very severe and tornadic storms in Virginia and North Carolina, but "storm stories/Epic conditions continued.  Last night, there were severe storms in east Tennessee and even tornadic storms in southern West Virginia- again, the "OTHER" programs continued - TWC did not even "break in" for a moment that I noticed.

NOW however- tonight, there are severe storms in Arkansas and western TN and they have "pre-emptied" Epic conditions.  I wonder if the storms had only been in TN they would not have broken in.

Sorry, I do not mean to sound negative, but I was wondering if I was the only one noticing this, or if I am misreading it.  ???

I am more discouraged than anything, because I love TWC!!

They've barely done anything special tonight until just now when they did an 8-minute update in place of the first segment of Epic Conditions. They'll probably do the same during the first segment of Weather Ventures, as well. Compared to what they should do, this is nothing. TWC just gets more and more pathetic.

I agree with you all. I can't imagine why on earth TWC is doing such an awful job covering these severe weather outbreaks. For some reason they think its more important to show Epic Conditions and Weather Ventures. It makes me wonder just how many viewers they're losing because of this.

They preempt all of Storm Stories for severe weather outbreaks. Why not do it to the other shows?

It's always worse on weekends. Methinks there's no one there to authorize the full preemption and the overtime for OCMs that would be required to pull off said preemption.

Ding, ding, ding.

As well, its a hell of a job for master to pull off break ins. It throws off the timing like you wouldn't believe.

They should do something to fix problem # 1. They need to have someone there at all times who can make the call to preempt, someone directly under whoever would normally make the decision on weekdays on the hierarchy.

They probably won't cover a huge severe weather outbreak but they'll break in for "OMG THERE'S A TROPICAL DEPRESSION OUT WAY OFFSHORE OF THE NORTHEAST. WATCH OUT AS THE TIDES MAY INCREASE A FOOT OR TWO THAN YOU USUALLY SEE" WE ARE ON STORM ALERT WITH CANTORE OUT ON CAPE COD, STEPHANIE ABRAMS OUT ON NANTUCKET, AND STEVE LYONS AT THE HURRICANE DESK"

"JUST LOOK AT THIS WIND. IT'S INCREASED 1 MPH OVER THE LAST FEW HOURS AND IT'S BLOWN SOME LEAVES OFF THE ROOF OF THE HOUSE. WE STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO BUCKLE DOWN ANYTHING AND STAY AWAY FROM THE WINDOWS"

Yeah, you get where I'm going.

Complete with Storm Alert music pre-empting the normal Locals playlist, too.

Just watch.  "OMG tropical depression!  Should we do Storm Alert!?!?  Yeah, let's do that."

The voiceover always occurs when the Severe T'Storm scroll comes on.

Well, its good to see that I am not the only one seeing this!

Another thing that gets me - and today is a prime example...  we have very severe weather today here in northeast Tennessee - one county seen major wind damage... guess what, on the "storm reports" map, they had NO "damage report" dots on northeast Tennessee...., I am sure the NWS reported it, because they knew about it.  At first it was thought to have been a possible tornado!  If our local NWS did not, then shame one them!   :hmm:

As far as I know, TWC retains no bias on that map. Someone must've screwed up there.

I don't think he's suggesting bias, but rather irresponsibility (or perhaps misinformation) on the part of whoever assembles those graphics.

Here's the result of my more scathing letter to Chris Hoitsma:

Quote
Thank you for contacting The Weather Channel Interactive.

I will forward your email message, expressing your frustrations with the lack
of severe weather coverage due to the airing of our long-form programming to
our producers and programming directors. When there are widespread outbreaks
of inclement or severe weather, our producers are given the option of
pre-empting any scheduled programming features or going live to Dr. Forbes in
our storm center. Hopefully, they will choose the later option more often in
the future!

We are always happy to hear from our viewers and hope you will continue to
watch The Weather Channel for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Chris Hoitsma
Solutions Center/TWC
That whole "later" (sic, it's "latter", Chris) option thing doesn't make any sense in the context of what I complained about. The former would actually be the desired option.
