Title: New tropical graphics for 2009
Post by: Spring Rubber on May 28, 2009, 11:48:55 AM
Yep, after one year, they're already overhauling all of their tropical graphics:

Here's the new map style:

I like the new title bars. It's look a lot like the 2003-2005 one which is my favorite.

I agree with Felix. It kinda brings back the 03-05 era.

They even look a little less cluttered than the 2003-2005 title bars.  I see that they dropped the use of saying the storm is so many miles away from a location.

I'm pretty sure the area where the Lat/Long also shows how many miles the storm is from a location on air, just like how it was last year.

Yep, I too like the new title bars for the tropical 'department' (I could not think of a better term).

Yeah, I always looked for that too. I am not crazy about TWC removing it.

I certainly hope not the music. I really like that three-chime sound.

Based on the weather.com video, I saw the graphics for the upcoming hurricane season and I have to say Im impressed but I have to see the graphics in action to rate it fully. At least, with the current graphic, you can see the trees swaying in the background which actually depicts a hurricane. Last year graphics was just a total mess IMO.

based on the monitor behind dr. steve lyons, it looks like they may have corrected the 4x3 safe issue.

In my opinion, nothing will beat the tropical graphics/music used in 2006. That theme was my favorite by far!

what i thought seemed usual is that usually they fade it out when it's incorrect, but they actually attempted and successfully caught it and fixed it haha.

so is it safe to say that the 3 chime music has been ditched, at least for the opener?

No, some of the morning crews still use that music for the opener. It was used on Weekend Now today, and it's often used for all of the morning shows on weekdays.

I imagine that the three chimes will be more prominent when there's actually some tropical weather happening later this season.
