« on: May 10, 2010, 02:07:36 PM »
I know i might some heat on this topic but,

How do you see longform programming on twc with all the repeats,

Should it stay or should the format go?

Long-form programming is one of the many things that destroyed TWC. At least TWC whose main goal was reporting and explaining the weather. Of course, TWC isn't alone in this. Almost every cable network has moved away from its initial idea into something unrecognizable to a loyal or former fan. Nick shared with me an interesting article about what programming execs think about all this. The interesting part is that most seemed loyal to what made the network a brand name. Well, if that's the case, they why the rapid change? Why not just expand and update the original brand? For example, TWC made some great documentaries in the late 80s to mid 90s. Why not do an updated version of that, instead of making shows that are nothing more than "Extreme Makeover" for weather fans?

I don't have a huge problem with longform, but I do have an enormous problem with the current layout. NBC seems to have a great talent for milking things dry. I loved watching When Weather Changed History with my family (we all even sat down for the 2nd season premiere back in September 2008), and I always found It Could Happen Tomorrow to be fascinating. For a time, I even started to develop an interest in Storm Stories. I honestly don't mind an hour of longform each night. But is there any point to showing the same episode of the same show 2 or 3 times in one evening? What is wrong with having WWCH Sunday nights, and Storm Stories maybe Saturday nights (or something of the sort)? It seems obvious to me that this is turning off viewers, and interest for the shows has widely gone down. It's also clear to me what shows TWC developed... When Weather Changed History, It Could Happen Tomorrow, Storm Stories... and what NBC did... Sea Tek (a show which I see no relevance to weather whatsoever).

Because of the current schedule, I can no longer travel and get clips on Saturdays. Not easy to do it on Friday nights during the school year, and I certainly can't take 2 days off of school.

Sea who? When did that show start coming on?

It has been around for a couple of months, but I've never bothered to watch it. I remember when I accidentally had it on, the narration was rather boring and I turned it off :P

One of yesterday's episodes was...

I am actually wanting to tape the ICHT episode "If a Category 5 Hurricane Strikes Tampa Bay" and tape the FFN "shorts boy" episode for personal usage. :bleh:

Other than that, TWC needs to give me more weather and LFs. <_<
