I wonder how things are going to play out tonight? Will EEWC go live for all four hours until Weekend Outlook starts? If so, will Dave host all four hours? Or will someone else step in at 2 AM ET?

I'm wondering the same thing as well since this segment obviously contained live segments. (radar and the mentioning of the current time)

Also, the production of this segment was quite raw compared to the modern EEWC production format. Did Dave drag the old production format back in with him for a total blast from the past? This segment seriously felt very 80s the way Dave ran through the segment while sitting at the desk and talking over full screen maps in an unscripted and "unslick" manner.

Have the commercial periods been shortened or something? They're running the :10 and :40 segments for a full six and a half minutes and still running on schedule.

You can still see that red podium reflecting off of the pillar to the left of the desk on the HD feed; how eery.

(BTW, I'm back home for the weekend, so I'm watching and recording the entirety of the coverage in HD; the only downfall is that I have to change discs every four hours, and I want to be awake at 7 AM ET in anticipation of Storm Alert, so my sleep tonight will have to be very strategic. >_<

The Weekly Planner just now was played off a recording from last hour. Apparently the show is only semi-live with non-Gustav segments being replayed from last hour. :thinking:

At the end of the last three local forecasts, I've heard fragments of other songs playing. Would those be bits of music recorded from last hour? And didn't this happen before (a few weeks ago, IIRC)?

Yes, that's exactly what you're hearing. My guess is that they're doing the playback a little less professionally than usual because of the unique setup tonight.

BTW, my friend, have you noticed that they've been using different lower thirds for the OCMs for the day two days or so; these L3s are more squared off on the right side, presumably to completely cover up the Gustav ticker so that there isn't a little corner of it sticking out when the L3s are on the screen.
