Sweet. I guess the long-form block was indeed just for final rehearsals/taping of Storm Session. Speaking of Storm Session, tonight Steph humorously tried to compare her outlandish prediction for the worst case scenario to what Fay is doing by heading to the Northeast now. :P

Anyone notice how the lights next to the city backdrop have been out since at least yesterday? I wonder if that's intentional or if it's something that needs to be fixed...

For some reason, TWC decided to assign Mike Bettes to do the updates on Gustav during this last hour of PME. I wonder what the thinking behind that was...

On another note from today, during her on-air hours today, Vivian used the old configuration of Titan/Skytracker that displays warnings by county and as solids instead of as outlines, exactly as it used to be. I don't think that's exactly a sensible way to configure Titan because that's not how warnings are issued nowadays. I also have to wonder if the satellite LFs (SD and HD) will ever be changed to display warning polygons instead of counties.

Tonight on A&B, they aired a Forecast Earth special report featuring Stu Ostro doing his part of the report from an area just behind the old studio 1B desk with the Global Forecast Center in the background. It's been a long time since we've seen that! :P

During the 10:50 PM ET Tropical Update, Dr. Lyons had some printout of a satellite picture in his hands.

Because Sam & Betty are truly TWC's worst pairing.

Jim Cantore has made an appearance on MSNBC right now.

EDIT:  "For those who don't regularly watch The Weather Channel, when you see Jim Cantore in your town, you pack up the station wagon and run like hell."

Wow, Gastav's track and forecast strength is pretty much worst case scenario right now, and now there's Hanna out there that's forecast to strengthen into a hurricane by Sunday and then head toward the east coast of the US by late next week. Could this be a double week of hell for the U.S., and dare I say it, a double Storm Alert week? Has that ever happened for two different storms before?

It could hit my area. I'm very concerned about Hanna.

You've changed your name so many times that he's probably lost track.  :P

Anyway, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Looking at the latest forecast cone, the storm appears to be predicted to move northwesterly until Sunday and then make a sharp turn west and hit Florida's east coast.

So what do you all think the probability of TWC going into Storm Alert for Gustav is? 50%? 75% 90% Higher?

I think it is pretty high, maybe ~80%. Seeing that they've been hyping up this storm since the beginning of the week, it could effect the very same area as Katrina did three years ago, and the fact that it could become a major hurricane once it hits the Gulf is even more of a resion.

BTW, is there severe weather occurring across the midwest tonight? Any bow echoes or squall lines out there??

Things are really starting to get down to business tonight; it's not very often at all that you see weekday EE start with a live teaser and opener. (with the teaser strangely following the opener)

There's been a little bit of coverage of the severe weather from what I can tell, but the Tropics are indeed overflowing the network. (perhaps rightfully so) Luckily it's only sprinkling here while the severe wx has so far stayed off to the west.

I found an interesting article on that Mobile TWC campaign from a while back.

I never knew it was such a big promotion
