It could be that they are using VizRT Virtual studio, but I thought TWC used a heavily customized version of WSI's Max for their weather maps? Also I saw a video for WSI's new Max Reality Suite. It's basically an addition to WSI's Max suite that adds Augmented Reality elements into your weathercasts. Could it be that they're using a similar version of this? After all The Weather Company owns WSI.

EDIT: forgot to add a link: http://www.wsi.com/products/media/max-reality

It looks really awesome! I loved the view of the tornado. So know we know TWC uses Ncam Technology for their AR presentations.

I took a look at Ncam. It's crazy. It just has 2 cameras and an infrared sensor and uses reference points. Effectively it's a hacked Xbox Kinect. It's interesting how they don't appear to be using their own software though

On MSNBC just a few moments ago, they were covering the Memorial Day Forecast and I've notice something unusual: no TWC reference! It seems that MSNBC is using their own separate graphics package for the weather maps and icons instead of the usual TWC package. I wonder if NBC is finally through with TWC? :dunno:

I noticed now that TWC is using 2 live footage videos from KTVT, the CBS Affiliate in Dallas and KXAS NBC.

I noticed that too.  Does TWC have a new agreement with CBS or something?  IIRC, there was a topic or post on the forums earlier this year where TWC maps were appearing on CBS Evening News.  I don't think I'm making that up. :P

At least it's not PRICK-TV. Oops!

Short answer: Yes.
Don't think too much of it.

I've noticed that the background of the news/weather ticker has changed from black to blue matching the color of the LDL.

EDIT: The color has been reverted back to black as of 4PM ET.

TWC has apparently made some changes to their daytime schedule. Alex Wilson posted on Facebook that she and Dave will be on 4-7pm every week "due to severe weather. "
https://www.facebook.com/twcalexwilson/posts/910749808968420

So, it seems that the new Weather Center Live shifts are 10-1, 1-4, 4-7, and 7-8 PM eastern. I have no idea why they would do this; it doesn't make sense to have another team (usually Alex Wallace and Keith Carson) come in for just one hour, unless they're planning to regularly extend live programming into the primetime hours. Another possibility is that this is setting up for the supposedly forthcoming Bettes show: maybe they decided to make it one hour at 7:00?

I imagine the 7-8 team is on standby in case they need to go live during longform programming.

This has been talked about briefly in other threads, but the right side bar on HD is becoming more and more useless.  Instead of the show rundown at the top, it's either just a bullet list of the top stories, or in most cases, a simple graphic saying "Tornado Threat" or "Severe Storm Threat" or something like that.  (I guess having that in three different places really makes a difference.)  Then there's that awkward empty space where they took away the rundown for local or national information.  And if you have the National Feed, like I do, really all you're getting is airport delays, top severe reports, the holiday countdown, and weekend getaway information.  Who cares?  I don't understand why TWC has removed most of the information on that sidebar.

Sarah Dillingham (she's been the producer for Dr Forbes for years) is on air tonight covering severe weather with Bettes. I'm surprised they haven't used her on air before, and I have a feeling she'll be seen on air more with the new evening show.
