It has nothing to do with cameras.  The Star just lost the satellite feed.  Instead of showing just black, Stars have shown green instead for as long as I can remember.  Heck, I even remember the WeatherStar III doing that back in the 1980s.

That looks a lot like the green screen on my WeatherSTAR Junior unit, except since mine is decommissioned, it doesn't show any info on the LDL.

I remember a long time ago when our local WeatherStar III went into "rainbow mode."  Due to whatever technical problem, it showed the LDL on the usual dark blue background, but the rest of the screen had no text and cycled between every available color on the machine: the usual dark blue, grey, brown, and red, plus other colors The Weather Channel never used: light blue (like The Weather Network used), yellow, green...  It was interesting to watch, though disturbing at the same time because I was only getting the audio portion of the programming.

I thought that was a chromo key wall without any weather maps displayed and no one was there. Never knew the IS2 could do that whenever it loses its satellite signal. :dunno:

Yep.  Believe it or not, green is the "loss of feed" image one sees.  Once upon a time The Weather Channel used blue chroma key walls instead, but we still saw green during a malfunction, since the green is computer-generated and has nothing to do with cameras.

Anyone notice that Some commercials that air on TWC, mostly Walmart's have an echo on them?  Anyone else getting this?

Everything on TWC seems to have an echo. I wonder if TWC purposely did that with their audio system or something? There are some radio stations here that are like that too.

TWC has extended WCL into the afternoon though they are not using storm mode graphics.

I'm not sure but I think new maps are coming. A few minutes ago I saw them using a colorful, awesome map for tracking the possible tropical storm or hurricane off the coast of south Carolina. Here's a picture of it:

I'm uploading a video of it soon and I will post it here. Sorry if this doesn't go here.

EDIT: Here's the video (sorry for the stretched screen):

TWC has preempted long-form as of 8pm ET due to severe weather.

I believe these were the maps they used before the relaunch.

These maps seem to appear to be very XL-like. Its about time they brought back the high quality maps!

TWC was running the promo about preempting regularly schedule programming so I believe they planned to be live to at least 11pm.

In the 11pm hour the video is full screen on the national HD feed so I'm guessing the is extra coverage in place of long form shows.

From the way I saw it, TWC planned to go to Catching Hell but pre-empted at the last second. I have no problem with showing more weather,  but they really need to use the squeezeback like normal for these situations. The translucent LDL on-screen makes it look kind of cluttered and it can at times obscure graphics (such as chyrons).

Good, many people (myself included) like the topographic maps better than the plain gray maps.
