I don't like the updated 7 Day Forecast graphics.
The whole fake CGI wall with the lights at the bottom is cheesy and the angle of the map is annoying as is that light flare on the top left. The ocean color is creepy.

I actually like this, however, there are some things I'd do differently.

Why do i get the feeling the graphics have an MSNBC feel to them?

Media companies are doing this type of thing all the time. Evidently they feel the need to show off with graphics such as this. I get the feeling that companies think that simply compositing a forecaster on top of a 2D map makes the station seem somehow dated, like they're trapped in a pre-2000 way of doing things. That such a setup is the more efficient way to convey the information is irrelevant.  "Ooh, look how high tech we are. We have a virtual set (or in some cases, a 30-foot wide plasmascreen) and can show you our map from any angle. We can also give you 3D representations of the storms and fly under them, pan around, and enhance them with really cool RGB truecolor animated icons. Say what? Hard to read? But... look how high tech we are!"

This is just one reason why I don't think National weather coverage is suitable for the average household. Citizens want to know whats going on at their local level and when they'll see rain on their doorstep. TWC simply cannot fulfill this level of detail and its something that will forever have them making graphics like this. If they can't get the level of detail required, why try to make it legible? Why not just make it spiffy with shinny graphics and 3D studios? If you can't beat local, why try?

The updating of the 7 Day Forecast graphics seems to a part of getting all the remaining graphics and maps updated to the new graphics package.

Angled maps are the "thing" in broadcasting these days.

What bothers me most is mainly the lens flare, it's so cheap looking.

It's like they were collaborating in a room all together saying, "Hmm I wonder what can make this somewhat bad display look cooler? Hey, how about Len flares? Len flares make any design look cooler."

They hired J.J. Abrams as a creative adviser.

Yuck!   I don't like those horrible graphics either  <_<
IIRC, didn't they used to do angled maps back in the day of First Outlook? I'm almost intrigued that they want to try to bring it back; however, I don't feel it's being properly executed.

I don't know when this happened, but I noticed Morning Rush changed their color scheme to various variants of orange which is MUCH better for a morning show than the color scheme they had before.

TWC is hyping their next winter storm by keeping the scroll on during long form.

It seems they rushed to do this as the background graphic appears to show the art and text safety area marks.
Also it makes no sense to put the video in a smaller window if they are not going to put the LDL on screen all the time.
Keep the video full size and have the scroll at the bottom.
If the storm is going to be this bad do live coverage and take this stupid episode Ice Berg Hunters off.

I suppose they have to prepare all graphics ahead of time with the assumption that the LDL will be on.

Since they do format taped programming for the LDL is really is no need to put programming in a smaller box as I doubt the scroll takes up much more space..
Not to mention the areas effected by the storm are already getting the NWS alert scroll in the LDL area.

I agree with this for the most part, but you have to remember that some programming where the audio (Coast Guard Alaska) when people are speaking isn't audible and you have the subtitles at the bottom.
