Rebroadcasting taped programming isn't anything new for The Weather Channel.  Even in the 1980s, the overnight hours were the same one or two hours replayed again a couple of times.  (That's what led to the infamous double-long long-format local forecasts while TWC rewound the videotape!)

However, packaging rebroadcasts as "live"... that's just not kosher.  If the word "live" is in a program title, viewers expect it to actually be a live broadcast.

And I honestly didn't think about it before, since I've never been to the Pacific time zone, but you're right - viewers on the west coast get to see only prerecorded material for what should be TWC's biggest primetime weather program.

Let me add I have no problem with the overnights rebroadcast either.
I remember around 2008 they would re air the 1am ET Weather Center at 2am and 3am then back live at 4am ET.

1am ET just seems to early to be rebroadcasting. Also they already had Julie Martin there and she did the Weather Now segment after the 1am rebroadcast so it's not like they had no OCMs around.

Monday 1am ET they are back to the two live blocks at 1am and 1:30am and the others a rebroadcast from 10pm ET.

Was there a reason behind the sudden discontinuation of the ID segment?   That screen had been around for a really long time.

My best guess is since the Star ID is at the bottom of the IntelliStar they saw no more use for the screen anymore.

I really doubt that's the reason why.. you have to think about all other STARs as well

If I'm correct, TWC is about to have it's first 24 hours plus of live broadcasting since their Super Storm Sandy coverage.
TWC has been live since 4am Tuesday and is schedule to be live all overnight through to Wednesday afternoon.

The studio walls are red for storm coverage though the LDL is not in storm colors.

I had a chance to hear the severe weather beep that comes with a warning on TWC.  It was serious but cool at the same time.  Even the OCM (Paul Goodloe I think) was talking about the beep.

Here is a message I received from Tony F regarding the station ID segment:

Programming has dropped that segment as on Monday. We are still trying to find out if it is permanent.

The graphics and studio are in storm mode.
Does the LDL on the IS2 have a storm mode color scheme like the national HD LDL does?

TWC has found Nemo.  It's bad that something like this is what it took to get overnight coverage, but it looks like that's what we have tonight going into tomorrow.  No long-form programming tonight.
