Actually, I think it's an excellent idea that the NWS is participating in the issuance of Amber alerts.  The more outlets that can be reached, the better the chances of the abduction ending sooner and with a positive outcome.

How people react to them is one thing, but think about it... if your child were missing, wouldn't you want every media outlet in the whole area to be reporting about it?

I kind of suspected amber alerts were issued by the NWS, because I can remember hearing them on my NOAA weather radio at home.

However, I've never seen the notice on weather.com before.

Guys, anything that the NWS issues should show up on TWC and all other media outlets.  I've even issued a couple amber alerts during the past year!  To give you all an idea how much more it is than just typical weather warnings, here's the full list of all the statements, advisories, watches, and warnings issued by the NWS that appear on their main weather map and could show up on weather.com:

I've seen that list before. The ones I found strange/funny were "Shelter in Place Warning", "Nuclear Power Plant Warning" and "Law Enforcement Warning", I mean, just imagine seeing those on your Intellistar and being narrated!

Long Island, August-September 2012 tornadoes, Hurricane Sandy, Blizzard of 2013, how many places on Earth do you know can get all 3 of those events within a 6 month period?

You have to think back to the Cold War on why those warnings got issued.

It must be a slow weather day if he's not been sent somewhere to be buried in snow, sucked into a tornado, or set on fire or something...

Has this been happening frequently? I'm seeing Paul Goodloe, Chris Warren, Crystal Egger, Adam Berg, and Kim Cunningham ALL IN ONE SHOW. This is the first time I'm seeing 5 OCMs in one show with no experts.

Yes, it's been happening for a few months. One OCM does the Social segment, One OCM does Digital Media Center segment, one OCM does weather news and 2 OCMs do the Radar and forecasts.

WCL started early at 6:30pm ET to cover the snow storm in the north east.
Seems like they might be live all evening.

They have been using this format since around November, 2011.
On November 9th I noticed they had 6 people on WCL.

I think TWC has hit a record for the most OCMs on Weather Center Live.
Tonight at 7pm the have Crystal, Chris, Jim, Kim, Kelly and Paul."

6 people? That's a little much for a show that only airs at three one hour intervals.

Didn't Evening Edition used to be like that initially with like 4 or 5 people?

Yep, IIRC they were on for 4-6 hours though (depending on whether or not Atmospheres was on), from 6pm-12am.

TWC is live at 2pm and will be live all evening to covering the storm that is moving to the mid Atlantic plus the storms in the south.

Heather Tesch & Nick Walker came on at 3pm ET for PM Edition.
Carl Parker is at the expert desk.
