I noticed a new intro sequence for Weather Center Live tonight. I was able to get a video of it, but the quality isn't the best. I don't know if it's for severe weather, or just for the nighttime editions, but it's definitely darker than the usual intro. Has anyone seen this before?

I've only seen that as graphics for the screens in the studios; but not as an intro. I've got a feeling that it might be for nighttime editions, seeing as how we have the light black/red intro for red mode, and the cream/light blue for daytime.

They've had that since they relaunched, it's funny they are only just now getting around to using it.

That's funny because I myself saw TWC's maps on 'CBS Evening News' a couple of days ago when someone (not from TWC) was doing a weather report on the severe weather.

remember the rumors a while back that NBCUniversal is looking to sell off The Weather Channel, i guess we now know who would buy it from NBCUniversal if the rumors of NBCUniversal bailing on TWC (The channel of course as NBCUniversal's parent company Comcast bailed on their epic mega cable merger with the other famous TWC, Time Warner Cable) is true, which would make perfect sense since CBS is the #1  network in the US on free TV, and some market's CBS is #1 in News on the local front and also CBS News is finally turning around after the Dan Rather debacle and the failure of the Katie Couric experiment of her hosting the Evening News. i think they will be gaining on NBC sooner or later depending on whether or not people will trust Brian Williams after his lying scandal when he returns from his 6 months suspension.

anyway, i think CBS ownership could be better, plus they could join in with local CBS stations in O&O markets like Dallas, Miami, New York, LA, and Boston.

well it's safe to say The Weather Channel is "asleep at the wheel" as there's an ongoing severe weather outbreak here in North TX right now, KXAS NBC 5, KDFW Fox 4. the local ABC station WFAA 8, and KTVT CBS 11 are covering this pretty well while TWC is no where to be found and i think WeatherNation might be airing it too but not as much.

so i give TWC a F for the coverage or lack there off. and WN maybe a C on being able to give weather period and all 4 DFW stations a A to A+ for live coverage.

"The Weather Company is shaking up its management ranks and bringing in former DISH Network executive Dave Shull to operate a “newly formed, fully integrated division” called The Weather Channel Television Group."

According to my TV Guide, TWC will preempt Reality Programming until 12AM ET on Saturday & Sunday due to the Tornado and Tropical Threat.

Holy cow! TWC just switched to full storm alert mode before my very eyes. They finally brought back the black L-bar with the red logo.

So,here's a cat I can finally after months let out of the bag.....

Argumentative Reality (or Interactive Reality) launched on TWC Today.
The team was working since September on this, and it's really something great that's going to really ehance weather presentation. They are the only network to use AR like this to explain weather..

Just in case people missed it..

Really, behind the times ;) , we've had that technology over here in the UK foorrr... well we had it in 2010 in time for the General Elections that's for sure. Here's a clip of it:

And if that wasn't corny enough:

And this may be how the TWC system works

IIRC, TWC Has used AR since the unveiling of The Lab. The Lab's floor "opens up" and shows a giant globe that then shows what ever weather event they choose to display. Also,  the way The Lab's AR works, is that it uses the circular patterns on the floor as tracking points for the AR. (At least that's how I think it works, I did see a Vimeo Video on it.) Maybe that's how the AR view of a tornado was done?

It wouldn't surprise me if they are using Vizrt Virtual studio as they are already using Vizrt Weather. From my own knowledge all Vizrt products work very well with each other

http://www.vizrt.com/products/viz_virtual_studio/

I should also point out that the BBC examples I posted above use this system.
