That is sad but I do hope cable and satellite companies will challenge TWC. With the layoffs of producers, will TWC even have enough employees and resources to pre-empt reality programming on weekends during severe weather? And will Weather Geeks air tomorrow?

The shift prediction was correct. Jen and Alex did 5am-9am.
I wonder what this means for Ray who seemed to only do the 4am-7am WCL on Saturdays??

Weather Geeks is a taped show so I'd expect it to be broadcast as my guess is they already taped segments to be broadcast.

Also noticed there was no one at the expert desk 5am-12m. Why bother having that new expert area if you are not going to staff it on weekends?

Perhaps they think the (by now) tiny alert scroll above the LDL is plenty for people in an area of bad weather, and no one else in the country needs to be disturbed by bad weather on The Weather Channel.  Go back to watching... whatever the heck it is they show these days.  I've never watched the longform programming.

Now that TWC has their first named winter storm my guess is we could get extended storm coverage in the evening this week.
They probably want to do as little live coverage as they can on weekends so they can extend coverage on weekdays.

Tom Niziol was in the lab for the 5am-9am WCL.  9am-12pm they did not have anyone there and did not use it.

You'd hope they would have some sort of Extended Live Coverage for Winter Storm Astro, also there is the big anticipated Arctic Air Intrusion this week as well.

But since this past Spring it seems to me they have been slowly reverting back to there old ways of less frequent Extended Live Coverage unless they really really have to. :hammer:

Stephanie Abrams was not on today though did respond on twitter that she's on vacation.
Just seems odd she was off last week and not on today for the winter storm coverage.

The 9am hour of AMHQ was all weather and they stayed at the desk instead of using that smaller table and chairs.

At 12pm ET TWC is using the small studio4 1C.  Keith says it's just temporary use.

If I were DirecTV, I'd look over that contract that was signed with TWC back in April. There was much talk about TWC reducing non-live programming at that time. Seven months later, they are actually showing more non-live programming than ever before.

No extended coverage of the winter storm? Checked at 10pm ET and long form was on.
The storm is important enough to name yet not important enough to extend coverage.
