This article, published today, lays out a whole slew of changes coming to TWC when they move to HD, including
*Rear-projectors replacing chroma-keys almost entirely
*A move to Titan HD for radar products
*Usage of the Evertz master control switcher
*A slew of other infrastructure changes
One thing I don't understand is the sentence stating that the HD master control room opened in December. I figured it would have opened months prior to that in order to broadcast HD programming.

Where's Kyle's post?
ANd what's a chroma-key?

The green screen the OCMs stand in front of to present forecasts.
-
Thanks Billy
Has the green screen ever appeared in front of the OCMS and they look like they're "disappearing"?
-
I have on numerious occasions seen where the switcher will dissolve between the OCM infront of the green screen, to what was on the green screen on program which makes it look like the OCM just dissapears on air.. :P
Anyone curious as to what the new Master Control system is, here is a product page: http://www.evertz.com/products/QMC

That's why monitors are placed on each side of the wall. They help the presenter know where everything is.
-
But even with the monitors it doesnt always help
-
Have you ever stood in front of a chroma key wall?
-
Have you ever stood in front of a chroma key wall?
Yes
-
Then you should know that the monitors are ESSENTIAL to making it easy to find your way when in front of the wall.
-
Well its just that i get nervous
-
That different then the monitors not being helpful. Everyone gets a little nervous, but that's all part of why the monitors are there. If they weren't there, you'd have NO idea where to point.
-
The only real difficult thing with Key Walls in orientation. Getting a feel for the limits of the screen and your movement on screen.
-
What's Titan HD and Evertz? Also, wouldn't projectors produce a lesser quality since they would cause a shadow of the OCM's?
-
The projection comes from behind the screen, so there's no problem. If you tune into ESPN, you can see the technology in place on two of their sets. The SportsCenter set uses a two-sided video "column" that has a total of four rear-projection screens (stacked in two layers), and they have another set that has a huge projection screen akin to what you might find on TWC.
Here's a picture of the SportsCenter "column" turned off:

The following photos show the huge HD projector that I speak of...

This should be interesting.
I am excited for TWC to ring in High Definition.
I really wish we could get a sneak peak at the new studio, you know?

I'll see if I can get some pictures, no guarantees!
