Animated Icons on weather.com's Local Page
« on: January 17, 2010, 02:41:52 PM »
I don't know if anybody here has tried weather.com's revamped local page, but on the Current Conditions tab...or should I say "Today" tab, the giant web CC icons are animated! I've noticed it this morning as I was checking the conditions for this morning. I saw the fading gray streaks across the fog icon.

But don't take my word for it, click on the following link and go from 1 to 47.

http://f.imwx.com/web/common/wxicons/130/1.swf

The only icons that aren't animated (and I wish they would): are Dust/Smoke, Haze, Windy, and Sunny.

Click here and take a look at the "Partly Cloudy" icon or search for your location.

Sadly its the crappy weather.com ones and not the IS icons. Wish they would use them like the weatherchannelkids site does.

Same here. Although I didn't mind them experimenting animating web icons.

They should've at least looped the images though instead of just 5 to 20 seconds.

I miss animated icons, so overall I like it. However, it seems like the animation for rain is the same whether light or heavy. Most of all, why do clouds animate (great with fog) but the sun doesn't?

These animated icons are cool but poorly done, IMO. Why doesn't the rain move on the t-storm icon? Why doesn't the sun animate at all? And yes, they should loop all the way through. <_< Some are neat, though.

I wonder if these icons might be temporary since they are poorly done

This is weather.com we are talking about...not the most professional-looking site out there. But truthfully, I don't know, Martin. Maybe they are temporary.
