Title: 1996 Relaunch of TWC?
Post by: WeatherSTARIII on September 28, 2008, 02:17:03 AM
I was woundering, why would anything from 1996-99 still be considered to be classic? On your sister website TWCClassics, you mentioned that the 1996 relaunch was the offical start of modern-day TWC. When they started the "No Place On Earth Has Better Weather" campaign, I consider it to be part of the modren day TWC. I know its been a decade now, but why hasn't anything from 1996-99 been moved to this site?

From what I recall, the 2000 date was chosen because that's when TWC went from quarterly playlists to monthly playlists.

I chose 2000 for the start point because TWCC has always covered up to 1999, and I didn't think it was fair to ask Matt to change that.

For the record, whilst I do consider TWCC our sister site, I hope you aren't saying that with the wrong idea in mind. They are very much two separate sites, with separate ownership and everything.

No, no! I didn't mean that you picked the wrong date. But yeah, I guess anything from 2000 through today would be considered to be modern. It just that from my point of view, TWC receved a massive on-air makeover back in 1996. I even remember watching it too. It was also the same time when they started to air Trammel Starks' music on TWC. I love his music so much!

But still, by the start of 2000, TWC already was using their on-air graffics that they had been since 1998. I also think the WeatherSTAR XL redefined the local forecast at the time prior to the IntelliSTAR. I still enjoy both websites!

My guess is that the Weatherstar XL, the successor to the Weatherstar 4000 and predecessor to the Intellistar, first appeared in early 1999. The Weatherstar XL had more advanced graphics than the 4000 and it was considered ther first "modern" Weatherstar system. TWC also had a relaunch a few months earlier, around middle/late 1998. The XL was designed to match the new TWC on-air graphics. So some people say modern TWC began in late '98 or early '99 because both the OCM and local forecast segments were relaunched at that time.

Wow. Talk about revising an old topic! I cover the years and post the content I do b/c it's my site and I can do whatever the hell I want with it. I call it "classic" because it's classic to me and other "old timers." If other people have a different idea of what "classic" is, that's fine. However, it has no bearing on what content I can or can not post. :)
