For those who have or had Weatherscan, which segments does your unit have on its playlist?
Camden, NJ Weatherscan has:

Mine in Lancaster had the following:
- Lancaster (local forecast)
- Lancaster Radar
- Travel
- Airport
- Garden
- Health
- Ski
I think that's all of them. I wish I had recorded more Weatherscan videos before Cocmast removed it.
-
nothing extra just:
Frankfort
Local Radar

That how it basically was like in Philadelphia area Weatherscans on Comcast until early 2005, except it was before the local radar was added.
-
Was it *basically* like that, gang?

There's another Weatherscan for Pittsburgh/Penn Hills, right? I remember you said there was a Pittsburgh/Penn Hills that you wish you received but your headend chose to have the other one.

I actually forgot about that unit, and yes, you're right. I never got to see that one. Why they opted not to use that unit I'll NEVER know. Instead, we were getting weather for other cities besides Pittsburgh, like Washington and Wheeling, which was useless to me.
It was the Pittsburgh North unit:
Downtown Pittsburgh
New Kensington
Penn Hills

Our FiOS coverage area expanded the other day as a few more communities north and south came on board, and thus, Weatherscan's config changed too. Here's the current config, which I like. Packages like Airport are more regionalized, with airports that Pittsburghers travel to.
The Garden and Health packages remain unchanged.

Comcast Pleasantville's Weatherscan has underwent many changes since 2006. The current conditions and forecasts are now for the Atlantic City area instead of Pleasantville (this likely happened around late 06 or early 07). It also uses new local obs sites, and even the airports and travel cities are arranged differently than other Weatherscans in the area. What's also uniquely different is that this Weatherscan has a more zoomed in radar for the radar segment. Most others in the area use the same radar for the Radar and Forecast segments. Also, on the Station ID page it uses a neat sunny beach background, instead of the Philadelphia skyline like what it used to show.
Segments:
Atlantic City Area (CC: Atlantic City Boardwalk)
Local Radar (formerly Pleasantville Radar)
Travel
Airports (formerly Airport)
Health
-
You didn't go to my area today, didn't you? :o
-
No, this was what I saw when I was in Sea Isle City, NJ. The Pleasantville and Avalon headends both get this Weatherscan. I did however pass by Northfield (which I think is pretty close to where you live) while on the GSP on my way back.
-
I didn't know Sea Isle had the same config as us. Sea Isle is quite far from P'ville.
-
We do get a different domestic IntelliStar than what Atlantic City has though. The CC are from Atlantic City and the forecast is for "Atlantic/Cape May County." Why they opted to have a city that isn't served by this Istar as the CC site I have no clue...

I'm trying to email Comcast's E-Care service about adding the International Forecast to the Philadelphia Weatherscan, but they don't seem to understand what I'm asking. They just give me an email with no useful information, like how adding this segment would meet FCC standards, etc, and that they would go to the technical support team to closely monitor this (as if it were a technical issue). I then tried another headend and they told me to contact TWC about this, when it's the affiliates choice about what segments to show. Any ideas?

well go to TWC about this, and most likely, they'll talk to the headend if you do it properly.

The Chambersburg Weatherscan has these segments:
Chambersburg
Carlisle
Local Radar
Health
Ski
Airport
Travel
-
What are all the available segments? Here's what I can recall:
Radar
Traffic
Health
Travel
Airports
Golf
Ski & Snow
Boat & Beach
International
Is that all of them?
-
You left out Garden. I think that might be all of them. International is the only one Philadelphia doesn't have.
-
The Ski forecast was added to my Weatherscan today, I don't think I have ever had that segment before.
-
Possibly you're unit is beta testing that segment to see if Atlanta Likes it. Kinda Like how FPB did those 5 segments back in May.
-
Wow, I figured Atlanta would have that sooner seeing how that's where TWC is. We've had ski on the Bucks County Weatherscan since 2005.
-
The Ski forecast was added to my Weatherscan today, I don't think I have ever had that segment before.
It's quite possible the segment was supposed to be there all along, and it was just disabled. They might of recently pulled the unit up to make a change or reset it and saw the ski package was off and enabled it.

hmmm... never thought of that, and I know that Frankfort wouldn't get that since the nearest ski range is Paoli Peaks (which uses dry ice instead of snow) in Paoli, IN

I believe your right Tyler, We just got the Garden segment this past Spring, we didn't have that before either.

This segment is still on here for now. I have these right now including the updates I noticed this morning are:
4 cities - Atlanta, Woodstock, Alpharetta, Marietta
Local Radar (update to cities and coverage area of radar)
Traffic
Travel
Golf (changes made by new cities added)
Airport
Ski & Snow
Health
I think the Garden segment should be back soon I guess. Dallas and Douglasville,Ga were replaced by Sandy Springs, Duluth and Cumming,Ga on the black scroll. Also Chattanooga Airport was added to the Current Airport conditions on the black scroll. I'll update this when and if I see more updates.
-
Man I wish FPB would get their heads out of their asses and make Frankfort's become "real" like the rest of America's. We haven't seen an extra package since early last June when thay took them away. Now Really do 5 packages slow it down that much, not as much as 9 like one of Mike's!
-
I saw the Travel segment for the first time today and I was surprised to see the places for the Destination Forecast had all been changed to Southeastern Universities? They used to be major US cities like New York, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles etc. Also on the regional forecast, Memphis,TN and Birmingham,AL were removed and replaced with Jackson,MS and Pensacola,FL.
-
Yeah, a lot of Weatherscans are starting to show local/regional cities on the Travel segment. Philadelphia and SE PA's Weatherscans have local cities, but my Camden Weatherscan has national cities arranged in no particular order.
-
Here's what my Garden segment looks like

-
DANG!!! 4 AIRPORTS!?!?! I envy you :P
Speaking of segments this is about the one year anniversary of when FPB beta-tested those Five segments last year, i believe my line-up was:
Frankfort
Local Radar
Travel
Airport
Garden
Health
Golf
for a grand total of 7 segments those were the (8) days
-
Did old weatherscan xl v.2 ever have an air quality forecast?
-
Got a Rare find for you guys
Ever heard of the International segment on WeatherScan?

-
Heard of it, but like you said, it's rare.
-
Yeah, Verizon seems to be the the company that prefers it the most. The only Comcast headend I know that carries International is in Richmond I believe. I wish I had that segment.
-
Yep Mike International is on Richmond's WeatherScan

-
Heh I wish I could've asked my uncle about this if he still had Comcast instead of FiOS. :P
-
Ski returns on my Wxscan
-
Wow, it's early, but not surprised with the early season snow in some spots. I'll see if Ski came to my weatherscan this weekend and post clips if it did.
-
Still getting summer segments here. Last year ski came on 10/28 so we should be getting that segment soon.
-
They do it region by region, headend by headend. There's no specific date as to when you will see winter segments.
-
This week the Ski and Snow segment came back on my Weatherscan unit.
-
Just got Garden and Golf back for the season here in Topeka. Looks like the spring/summer segments are back in the central plains. Health is showing allergies again, as well.

Same case here, as well as the boat & beach segment.

The Ocala, FL Cox feed uses a Wxscan from Gainesville, and to my surprise, it had packages dedicated to Ocala/Gainesville for Spanish  they werent narrated in any way though, and even the radar has spanish on it and it is seperate from the other products. (ie GAINESVILLE < OCALA < GAINESVILLE ESPAÑOL < OCALA ESPAÑOL < GOLF < AIRPORT)

The Spanish segment is pretty rare. Though it makes sense to have it in FL.
-
OMG, the IntelliStar DOES have spanish segments! Does it use the same color scheme (yellow pillar bars) and backgrounds as the English segments?

Yep, all Spanish, same graphics, though no Amy Bargeron or other person doing VO's :P
-
Does Health not come on during winter anymore? All we have is Airports and Travel for our additional segments. Health was on last winter, just without the allergies screen.

Health is supposed to be a year round segment.. either they removed it by accident or perhaps your headend requested it to be shown on summers only.
