It was brought to my attention tonight that one of our most recent new members is a 7 year old girl (yes, you read that right). Therefore, I need you all to help me out. See, ordinarily having such a young child here is something I'd be very uncomfortable with, perhaps to the point of not allowing it. But AFAIK this forum has no feature like IPB's were you can make registrants confirm their age, so my hands are kinda tied. So, from here on out I need everyone to refrain from using vulgarity of any sort. Since I can't very well l turn her away now, I have to do the next best thing which is to protect her from things she shouldn't see. I hope you guys understand this. This has always been a family oriented forum, so I suspect that this won't be too much to ask.
That said, the member I'm speaking of is sunlightreport. Many of us have dealt with her, and were frustrated by some of her posts. So now that we know the why behind her posts, please do me a favor and be patient. Remember, this is a child. Don't get mean with her, and don't be nasty. If you don't have the patience, then please don't say anything at all.
I appreciate everyone's cooperation. B)

You're not gonna reprimand an accidental slip up in language are you? And I don't think most people here talk about certain things (more towards PG-13+ stuff) anyway so all should be mostly good. B) You'll have cooperation from me :)
And also, I could have sworn it was a guy since they said their name was Shane in their first post... Wouldn't expect that to be a girl's name, but these days, anything can happen.

Why aren't I surprised that your the first responder? No, there won't be reprimands. I'll simply edit posts I find to be unsuitable. BUt I'm asking for you guys to tone it down on your own because I'm only one person and I don't have time to watch you all like children.
I thought they were a girl because of the e-mail address (which clearly belongs to a girl). I didn't see a mention of his/her name.
I'm glad I have your cooperation, though I'd prefer it without a side of hoopla. ;)

Hmm...would it be possible to do what Dan did with his forum...add some sort of "age sensitive" forum? I know copying someone else's forum idea isn't probably the best idea...but this might work.

One of the models from Price is Right was named Shane. So I didn't think anything of it.

Yeah I'm kind against using other people's ideas, but I guess its something to think about.

Well that's good to know. One less thing to worry about. B)
I'm still undecided on what course of action, if any, to take.

Why aren't I surprised that your the first responder?
Did I do something wrong? Why can't I be the first responder? :dunno:

Did I say it was wrong? Did I say you couldn't do it? You just always seem to be the first to give your two cents when issues arise.

Am I the only one that sees a problem with parents allowing 7-year olds to freely roam the Internet and join forums?

fair enough... sorry... I'm usually up late nights, and happened to be up at 1:30 when I made that post, lol...

No, I'm with you all the way. It's ridiculous.

Maybe things are more lax in Canada? I agree though as well. It doesn't help understanding a 7 year old and one who speaks French more fluent than English (member is from Quebec)
-
Like I said, be patient with him/her. This forum is open to people of all countries. Even if I didn't want it to be it is by defaukt by being on the internet.

I was 11 when I got on the internet! And even at that point I didn't go around joinin' up forums. hah.

The first forum I ever joined was the TWCMB, and I was 18. :P

Couldn't agree more. Parents these days.
That said, I was 10 when I joined my first online forum, and 11 when I joined TWC Classics. While I agree that this is a very special case, I don't agree with having to sensor everything. Like others have said, maybe an Age Sensitive section, or possibly restrict said person to certain areas of the forum.

My first twc site i discovered, was taiganet back in Sept 2005. I was only 12.

Well I don't want to add anymore boards to this forum.

Clearly we need to resort to unnecessary censorship (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbvBpZkWCiE).

Martin and Mike...he/she is FRENCH CANADIAN. That's why he/she has trouble. Now, I didn't start this thread to deal with everyone's bullshit. I'll lock it ASAP if it doesn't stop. :club: :nono:

Ah, I understand. As such, I've deleted my earlier post. B) Sorry for causing any trouble.

I believe the Jennifer is her mother, and the actual person is Shane, a boy.
On QuickCast:
"look im jennifer thats my child who wanted the icons or something about weather. well thanks for helping.and remember its a child your talking too." "he wants to be a weather reporter one day"
