To honor the 2 year anniversary of TWCT I would like to do a Local Across the 48s on June 25!
The time will be 7:57PM ET
For those of you not familiar with this, at a certain time, members across the country capture their local on the 8s. This allows everyone to see weather at different locations and across different STAR platforms. We prefer that you have a video tuner but a digital camera/ camcorder shot will also be accepted. Please try to keep quality as high as possible.
Feel free to post any questions or comments here.
-
Anytime is really good for me.
-
I will not be able to participate.
-
What is a local across the 48s? It sounds like something I'd like to participate in.

Local Across The 48's (LAT48's) is a project where everyone records a TWC LF at the exact same time. It sounds fun and I would be more than happy to participate. I am flexible as well with times, and I will try to go up to the thumb to record the Bad Axe XL. I do think, however, that we should do a two minute LF, and not a 90 second or one minute one.
-
Oh okay. I'll try to participate. It all depends on what I'm doing that day though.
-
I'll take care of the HD Satellite LF.
12:28 ET sounds like a good time (so we can get a 2-min LF rather than those dreaded 1-min LFs).
-
No, I'd say we stay away from middays since a lot of people are away at work. Try somewhere between 8-10 PM.
BTW, I just made an annoucement on this on TWCT's Facebook page and will remind everyone periodically. :)
I will try the best I can to capture both my Mount Holly and Lower Bucks IntelliStar.
-
Or at 9 AM ET. I can't ever watch TWC at night because my parents won't get me DirecTV back in my room because their phone lines are always busy.
-
Next to no one is watching TWC in the early morning hours. (except for me and Jesse usually)
Primetime is generally the ideal time to do a Local Across the 48s.
-
I'll do it but I'm unsure as to what city I should leave my DirecTV lf on...
-
My first LAT48s, I'll definitely participate! I just have to remember this date........
-
Im thinking between 8-9PM EST. Thats a good time for a lot of people (I think) and is a good time for people in different time zones.
-
That hour will be long-form all that week. It'll have to be the hour before or after that, I'd say.
-
Then I'd say we go for the 9PM ET hour. IIRC, most of our other LAT48's have occured during the 9PM hour and they've worked out quite well.
-
Before these have gone at 8:57, as to get station IDs as well.
-
I'm good but it'll just have to be a camera looking at my TV at the satellite LF.
Everyone fine with that? I have close to no equipment to do this except a DVR and a digital camera with movie capabilities. :P

that's probably what i'll end up doing, lol.

I think we should do it at :57 after, and that is a great idea to get the station ID's. I always try to include mine in my videos, and it would be nice to see some from others as well.
I really want to try to do this with the Bad Axe XL, but my mom is less than thrilled about the idea of driving 2.5 hours up there just to, and I quote, "watch TV". I will most likely just do it down here in Lansing.

Date and time set: June 25 7:57 EDT
-
Date and time set: June 25 8:57 EST
EST?
No..he means PST.
-
I'll participate if I can remember to record the LF. :P
-
Like I said, there's long form during that hour. There's going to be Storm Stories followed by a one-minute LF with no station ID.
-
Martin... do you not get it? 8:57 is the end of Storm Stories that week, which does NOT have an ID screen and the LF is also 1 minute long. Your best bet is 7:57 or 9:57. You're not going to have much luck if you keep it at 8:57pm.
-
I'm in... As soon as we get a time set.
-
This will be my first local across the 48's as well. I will participate since I got my tuner (the same one Evan has)

ugh I forgot that was thrown in there. 7:57 it is
-
I most likely will be able to participate. I might be on a camping trip, but I'll have to confirm this later when my dad and I arrange the dates.
But is there any chance we could get any people with juniors or 4000s to participate?? :whistling:
-
I just realized that I will not be able to participate with the Frankfort Intellistar due to vacation. I may be able to catch the WIlmington, NC Intellistar though and I will set a recording to record that lf in Frankfort.
-
You can DVR it or post the DirecTV Local Forecast for Zip Code area or post the entire Dish Network Satellite Forecast as well and put it on TWC Today. If you have AVI files, you must convert it to WMV from Windows Movie Maker.
-
I may be able to DVR it, as long as you don't mind a 320x240 recording.
-
I may be able to participate. No guarantees though. B)

DOn't you use the Applian Slingbox recorder?

yes, however I still have to physically get it to record on the tivo first while I'm at work :P

hmm well you could try timer recording it for applian. would timing it work for the tivo?

not gonna work when my laptop's asleep when I'm not around :P
-
oh ok. well..
-
You can also put that for Verizon FiOS Headends. But the Local Observations always starts off the Local on the 8's at :28 and :58 each hour. Current Conditions/Now product only starts off the Local on the 8's at :08 and :38 each hour and :18 and :48 each hour.
-
Does anyone think that creating a category for the LAT48s videos in the gallery would be a good idea? I'd like to see what everyone here will capture.
-
Hey guys, I'll try my best to set up my DVR for this Local Across the 48's event, do remember that it won't be posted early right away, but I will record and upload it as soon as I get home.
The only question is that where is the place that we should upload our Local Across the 48's clip at so it can appear here?
Thanks
-
Im still messing with gallery feature. For now the plan is for me to create a thread in the contributions area. People can attach the file there.
-
I'm sorry to say this, but I am going to be forced to do the SD Satellite LF. If I did the HD one, it would take forever to get the video to convert to 16:9 and the max file size is 35 MB. :pinch:
However, if I produce a 4:3 clip, it will take 2 minutes to process and come out as 9 MB, so I've decided to do the SD Satellite LF. :itsok:

Max attachment is 99mb. We will be waiting several days for everyone to turn clips in

If we have a thread on this, couldn't we just upload the video to YT, post the link on the message, then it will have the YT player? That way, you could upload the HD LF since I don't think anyone else is going to.

upload to imagehost.org... they have a 100mb file size limit, plus easily downloadable.
-
My apologies. I thought it would be 35MB, but it turns out that it can be as low as 9-12 MB if I use Movie Maker Version 2.6.

As I said max attachment size can certainly handle it. I really prefer people attach the file itself. It preserves quality and makes it easier on me :)
-
Reminder the big day is tomorrow!! Hope we can get a lot of people participating!!
-
I don't think I may be able to participate as my VCR is starting to acting up. I will try to fix it as soon as possible.
-
You can do that too for DirecTV Zip Code, and Verizon FiOS headends. Make sure you set up at 7:57pm on your TiVO, DVR, or VCR.

No duh Sherlock. :poke: :P
/me coughs...
Ummm...that was polite. <_<

Well, he always states the obvious.

It's still unnecessary and rude.
-
Just one question, is it alright to record the DirecTV LF?
-
No it's not alright, it's illegal..
J/K, Sure why not. Are you talking about the DirecTV that does the LF by zip code then absolutely!
-
Today is the big day, so I wish everyone good luck on your recordings! I hope that I'll be able to participate next year when I actually have a working camera.
-

Uhhhh, yeah. Victor's doing it. :noexpression:
-
I forgot set my timer to record the Mount Holly forecast, so it would have to be just the Lower Bucks IntelliStar. Would you be interested in a recording of my Bensalem Weatherscan too?

We used to do these more often, like one every 3-5 months, but this is the first LAT48's we've had since February of last year. I think the problem was back then was that not as much people were on this forum, and as such not a lot of people recorded their LF's. Now that we have a lot more members we could be able to do this more often.
-
Wasn't there one on 7/9/08?
-
Sorry for double4 posting, but I thought I'd go ahead and spread the word on Twitter. :)

My DVR is set for both HD and SD channels!
-

Yeah, there was, but it doesn't appear to be on the site.
-
Looks like I'll be able to participate.
Do we have ANYONE recording a legacy STAR?? It seems like nearly everyone is doing the directv LF... :/

I sure wish I could, but I am not able to record the XL like I had hoped. I hope we can do this project again this summer so I can get a chance to record an XL.
-
Just a friendly reminder that we have less than three hours. B)
-
where do i upload the local across the 48s to because i am going to participate in this
-
Post it here

/me sets manual recording.
I'll have it attached when I get home tonight, assuming it records properly <_<
-
I timer setted my slingbox to record the A.C. locale for the forecast. I guess it's worth setting the local forecasts back to atlantic city now because of the heat.
-
Looking forward to this :D
-
Remember: Please record the STAR ID! :)
-
Everyone get ready :) Its almost time
-
Well, my tuner just took a crap, literally SECONDS before this started. I have nothing to contribute now (except an emulation, which is obviously out of the question :( )

I just noticed. I'm an hour late. No matter. My tuner hasn't been working properly since my box power surged.
-
For anyone wanting the song ID during the LF that you all recorded, it was "Deepest Days" by David Helpling. B)
-
That song is so annoying. I wish that BB King song played instead.
-
My video is finished, but it's taking forever to attach.
-
I just got my video done.
-
I don't think I'll be able to post my recordings by the deadline. My laptop can not connect to the Internet. Atleast I was able to record the LF, the laptop was completely dead earlier.
-
I see lightningbolt9999 and socool775 participated, but I guess they didn't read the rule to post the video here.
-
I probably won't have mine up tonight either, my computer is going as slow as a snail.
-
I got mine recorded, but won't be able to send it until Sunday at the earliest.
-
Martin did you ever get my PM? :whistling:
-

There is no deadline. Just submit as soon as you can. :)

I agreed. It's gets on my nerves and I heard it a lot one day.
