I had swore to myself I was never going to attempt to recreate this particular legacy STAR. Yet, here I am attempting to make it in After Effects.

All weather data (including the warning crawl) was accurate at the time the image attached below was captured.

A few more things need to be added, such as the flashy effects/transitions for the titleheader/templates, as well as metro maps/daypart forecast, but overall this came out better than expected.

I've done a few different spins on how the IntelliSTAR2 should look since the version 2 update last November, but for this one I thought about that Vimeo video that was posted here last year of the mock up Weather All The Time concept and how (in my opinion)The Weather Channel threw away a major opportunity to set the IS2 apart from it's predecessor the IS graphically.

I'll be the first to admit that while I did love the simplicity back then, I realized that too simple can be a bad thing as well as being too flashy. I'm hoping with this concept I was able to strike a good balance between the two, but I'll let those who watch the video decide. I was somewhat disappointed that while the overall design remained similar to the mock up videos, they didn't choose to keep that personalized feel of the cities/landmarks like they did in the mock up videos as well. When the IntelliStar2 v1 first came out over 4 years ago, what made it appealing was how vastly different graphically it looked in comparison to the IntelliStar. It had flair, flashiness and vibrance.

I don't know why, but for years I always wanted to see a future STAR display weather conditions in the background, in addition to actual cities and landmarks where you live as part of the background. I always thought that would be cool to see and (again in my opinion) would add a level of depth and uniqueness to that particular STAR which is exactly what I did in the video below.

I made a few modifications mainly to the fonts/alignment and layout of the weather data.

These are two different versions:

The first version is for metropolitan areas such as Chicago that used as an example. The Chicago skyline is blurred in the BG w/ the raindrops/rain/lightning overlayed on top. If the weather observation was precipitation-free the Chicago skyline wouldn't be blurred.

The second version is for rural areas where you get a generic cloud BG w/ the weather elements overlayed on top.

Another idea I had was to have the text written weather observation be similar to the actual narration. The Chicago image is a good example of this where it reads, "Thunderstorms in the area". The first line is for the weather observation (rain, sleet, snow, etc.) and the second line (if needed) is for the phrase (in the area, in the vicinity, nearby, skies, etc.)

Fonts Used: Helvetica

It's no secret that my favorite legacy STAR is the 4000 and always will be so my goal is overtime to recreate every graphical era (including all text based) from 1990-Present. Over the past 18 months, I've already recreated the 1992-1995 and 2002-Present era. Starting in October I'm focusing on the 1990-1992 era.

NOTE: I used an actual screenshot from twcclassics.com to size and scale everything as accurately as possible.

Hey Tavores, just watched this video, and I have to say, awesome job on these graphics!  I personally like the skyline background and most of all, the animated weather conditions.  What program did you use to make these?

I created/animated it in After Effects. The only thing I can't take credit for animating is the XL icons that were mixed in there. I only used them since the still weather icons I used were limited (I got them from here btw. http://www.iconarchive.com/show/weather-icons-by-jaan-jaak.html)

Actually, my TWC Fan art has been strictly After Effects and PowerPoint Free since May 2013 and I have never looked back. I only wished I had made the full transition back 4 years ago when I first started messing around with AE.

Here's a test run of the WeatherSTAR4000 circa 1990 when it was updated graphically to the Orange/Blue color scheme we know and love, but was still mostly text based. Still working on that fading dissolve effect.

All the weather data is fake and invalid except the local forecast/extended forecast. The weather data is there as placeholders. The time and date is also invalid.

This has been a long time coming for me. I've been interested in recreating this for over a year, but I kept putting it off to focus on my 4000/XL emulations.

This is what I have so far. This is my first attempt in After Effects.

IntelliSTAR2 version 1 (2010-2013)

Special credit goes to Craig (TWCCraig) I took a screenshot from one of his IS2 recordings to size and align everything.

This is something I have always wanted to do, but haven't until now. It's been just over 6 years (June 2008) since I've making STAR Emulations. Year after year, I've learned from my earlier mistakes, and improved technically and graphically overtime.

The video below highlights a WeatherSTAR4000 Emulation I made back in November 2008. Some of you who have known me here for a while may recognize it. Halfway through the video is the same 4000 emulation re-created in After Effects this week. The differences are very stark and drastic! Redoing this in After Effects allowed me to do some things graphically that I was not capable of doing in Powerpoint such as the TCF for example.

THIS IS A REPOST FROM TWO DAYS AGO IN BETTER QUALITY.

Fixed some of the blurriness of the text and a clock error.

I used one of Aaron's (socool775) IntelliStar videos to configure the information for this emulation.
