Title: plane852's Intellistar 2 Concepts
Post by: Mr. Rainman on October 22, 2010, 04:45:29 PM
I figured I might start showing off a custom emulator of mine. The original emulator was made by Andrew Poecker (apoecker), but I've revamped every slide so that the original template is almost unrecognizable. The only thing I've kept, and credit goes to apoecker, is the black portion of the slides with The Weather Channel logos. All graphics and logos are the property of The Weather Channel and The Weather Channel Incorporated.

My main project involves a mass, national Local On The 8's. This is the first slide, showing severe weather alerts.

Any videos of it in action? :D

It's coming soon enough. Until then, another screenshot. This time, it's the tropical update.

My apologies for being gone so long. Here is an attached screenshot of a new emulator project, imitating the Intellistar 2. I've changed the "Radar Satellite" to "Regional Doppler." Why? Because I felt like, and The Weather Channel doesn't supply the maps I need.

A few notes:

- This was made entirely in Powerpoint. Everything you see here can be done in the 2007 version.
- The title bars belong to wxgatlin.
- All icons belong to Martin and The Weather Channel.

Video to follow.

Hey-hey, thanks. Here is another pic, this time of the local forecast. No, there is no movie in the box, that's just an image. I haven't been able to find video clips anywhere that don't cost money.

Well, it's finished. After god knows how long it took to make it, the presentation is done. A video will follow shortly. The public download will also soon be available, via PM. I'll let you know when its released.

Well, here it is.

Intellistar 2 Emulator (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uP32Msk5jI#)

A few things to note:
- The standard copyright disclaimer, the song is "Eminence Front" by The Who, and the song writes are owned by The Who, WMG, and UMG.
- Once again, title bars belong to wxgatlin.
- The flavor idea came from Mike M, who started the "Your Custom Intellistar Flavor" thread. This is his :08/:38 2-minute flavor.
- Yes, I know the video goes for 2:30. The reason is that there are so many animations going on at once. The local radar constantly running in the corner, 9 or 10 gifs working at once, and the transitioning data on the left side of the screen. I'm surprised the emulator doesn't crash with everything that's going on.
- Despite the fact that there is a Winter Storm Watch in effect, there is no advisory slide. That's coming in Version 1.1.

Since my emulations are now strictly Intellistar 2, the thread has been appropriately renamed.

I'm taking a small break from the Intellistar 2 emulations to announce a new project. As some of you might know, I run a forecasting office for my local school. I'm making, from scratch, a completely unique version of the local on the 8s. I'll show you picture of it as it begins to take shape. Right now, it's in the brainstorm stage.

Secondly, I'm putting out an offer. If anyone has an emulation concept with the Intellistar or Intellistar 2 that they'd like to see done, respond to this and let me know, so I can work on it and release it to the public. If I can, if its okay with the mods, I'll send the template to the requester so they can use it for themselves. NOTE: If you are going to send me an emulation concept, I need transition times. See the example below.

:00 Current Conditions
:08 8-City Observations
:16 National Doppler
:24 Regional Doppler
etc.

Not exactly a Weather Channel concept, but something I wanted to show off.

We've probably heard those EAS warnings on our radios or televisions at some time, warning us of an impending severe weather event, bio-hazard, or some other hazard. The school forecasting office is now starting something like that, and I want to show a clip of it off. Here is a Campus-Wide Severe Weather Outlook.

One quick note: At the end, there is a statement that a low-risk severe thunderstorm watch could be issued. At the MFO, we issue watches either the night before or the day of an anticipated severe weather event. Our policy is that, to avoid confusion, a watch will remain in effect until atmospheric conditions become less favorable for severe weather, OR the National Weather Service issues a watch that covers our area.

What do you think? Does it sound convincing?

EDIT: File attachment doesn't work, making it a private Youtube video. Will be up at 11:00 PM EST.

Let's do something different. Due to the mounting severe weather threat starting Sunday evening, I made this. It's a shameless ripoff of Dr. Forbes graphic.

EDIT: Forgot credit again. Donovan is the maker of the amazing basemap.

Long time since I've posted here, but I may start putting some more Weather Center related graphics up here, just to show off our marketing campaign.

Below is a simple but sweet ad for the Atlanta Regional Forecast office. What do you think?

EDIT: Changed picture to a better resolution.

Not TWC related, but I'm finally done with finals week and I decided to write a little piece describing how things went. It's cheesy, and I never intended for it to be stellar, but I just had it sitting in my mind. Enjoy!

Quote
God, if you hear me
Have mercy on my soul
Finals week has finally come
And will likely take a toll

On Tuesday it’s Aviation,
Which should be easy for some,
Especially that kid up front
Who smacks loudly on his gum.

Thursday brings Ground School,
Which takes place at night.
I wouldn’t mind it so much
If there was not a risk of frostbite.

The weekend should be a study period,
But I decide to procrastinate,
I laugh it off but wonder
If that has sealed my ugly fate.

Monday brings Meteorology,
A class I take in stride.
The exam goes well, I start to think
Maybe fate is on my side.

But a nasty surprise for Tuesday
My Calc exam looms,
I sit twirling my pencil,
Numbers counting down my doom.

This week has been so hectic
And it’s made for quite a show.
But that’s it, now I’m done.
So I say “Dixieland HO!”

Based loosely off of Fox Business, a lower thirds concept I created for our website's stream, airing sometime tomorrow evening! Market data is inaccurate.

*BUMP*

Just got GEMPAK, so I'm playing around with forecast graphics. Let's try a hail probability for today's severe threat, shall we? Probably not correct, but hey. It looks good. :P

A heat wave continues across the Midwest and Ohio Valley tomorrow. Here are the forecast highs and the departure from normal. Joplin, St. Louis, and Indianapolis are set to break their record highs, and Chicago could tie.
