Title: Al's Art
Post by: Al on December 02, 2007, 12:57:01 PM
Thought I should probably just start a topic here too  :sunglasses:

I basically started this, this morning....it's obviously not complete because I still need to make a LDL to cover the bottom part of the image.

Comments/Suggestions/Criticism always welcomed.

giving credit when credit is due: background was from tyler's ywt today opener and the ldl was from billy.

well...i was up until midnight doing this, and when you just got done with a 7 hour musical rehearsal, you'll want to get some sleep. it's just the design now, i'll add temps and icons whenever I get a chance.

k?

Here's a screenshot:

it kinda throws off my alignments, as you can see the 8pm needs to be shifted to the right a little.

and its as i thought, you can't see it very well. hahaha looks like i forgot the change the "3 day forecast" back to "sunday's forecast" oops.

kinda need opinions here...which icon set should i use?

XL Icons
(http://i25.tinypic.com/359hes4.png)

IS Icons (New York & Los Angeles) / TWC Web Friendly Icons (Chicago & Philadelphia)

i decided to use a different type of font as well.

The newer icons give a more "pizazzed" look to it. So i suggest the new ones.

well, since i was able to see (somewhat) the new LDL with the pictures tyler uploaded, I **attempted** to make a mock-up, and clearly failed:

:P

decided to take a whack at lowerthirds:

thoughts? i kinda made it while i was tired, and I'm about to fall asleep at my keyboard. so when i come back tomorrow i'll see if theres anything you guys want me to improve, but i was kinda shocked when I got the result of this lowerthird.

it was suppose to be your weather today....but somehow managed to get that first outlook feeling, so i changed the names.

i even tried the tabs at the top, but failed so i took them off.

&& also the white fades at the top and bottom were intentional - i kinda tried to do what twc did.

i never really noticed how it does in fact look like an eurostile font.

I used their blank map feature and screen captured the national map, northeast, south, midwest, and west.

I've been working on this for a couple of days...I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with the blue area/space.

also - there is suppose to be a gradient effect behind the forecast boxes from the blue transitioning into the cloud picture, but it's sorta hard to see, but when they boxes aren't there, it's a nice effect.

i took that cloud picture btw. :P

What I would recommend is doing a bit of the blur tool around the edges of yourself a little bit, NOT TOO MUCH, but a smidge, before putting it into the graphic. It would help get rid of a bit of the jaggedness that you sort of see... Otherwise, great job, heh. :)

Also, is that a specific font you're using for the EE logo or is that premade?

EDIT: From past experiences with Photoshop, it is extremely easier to do some cutting and cropping yourself out when you're in front of a solid colored wall, which it seems like what you're doing.

it was from twc media kit, that's why its kinda crappy. I open it up as a png, place it into a png pic/graphic and it kinda messes up the image for whatever reason, btw thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely try it out.

basically I just added my own touches, such as the video feed area, lowerthird, and news music -- in which was edited to my likings and to sync in well with the graphics... all just for fun.

It's recommended that you watch this in High Quality.

hey, thanks guys. its been a while since i've gotten a comment on my stuff, haha i have a feeling i'm losing my touch.

anywho, i need assistance. i'm debating whether or not i want the city skyline to take up the whole main table or a portion:

C:

i personally like option c, but tell me what you think (improvement or otherwise.) thanks =]

i do know that on option c, the tab titles are difficult to read...if chosen i'll work on something to fix that.
also working on an hd logo, so don't mind that.

Also, I'm working on a Video with the Evening Edition graphics I made...so keep an eye out for that.
Title: Re: Al's Art
Post by: Al on August 20, 2009, 08:07:51 PM
so...here is that evening edition video; it's horrifying.

something happened to the quality (it was made for HD), but clearly it's not...something is wrong with the first & second EE transitions (they're playing twice, the ending parts), the opener is fuzzy, and the lowerthird looks terrible.

wtf? it definitely looks nicer on my computer lol.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8B_1y6BsV8I#ws (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8B_1y6BsV8I#ws)

I attempt to rectify these issues.
Title: Re: Al's Art

so something's wrong with my computer; excuse the first two transitions...(also allow time to finish processing so the quality is HD worthy)
